Following on from my Parkside Dundas O gauge build ( fruit van ) , I ordered up some acrylic paints ready to have a go at painting it.

They should be here for the weekend.

I also took stock of what I have in the shed already in the way of paint and powders etc as I've just watched Gary's tutorial video showing the weathering of his 100 ton TEA tankers using powders with not a drop of paint in sight. Well except the minimal use of an oily ain't wash.

It looked good and gave a bit comfort that there may be a reasonable degree of flexibility in how you take it on and confidence to have a go.

I have a fleet of a Hornby Railroad tankers which are awaiting Kadee couplings to be fitted. Paul has convinced me that I can have a crack at the weathering prior to doing the couplings soooooo ......... I'm going to give it a bash.

Like the O Gauge build, I'll state up front ....... More for anybody new that I have never done this before. The reason I say this is that it may be more easy to gauge the skills needed from a complete novice rather than an accomplished modeller. :avatar:

I may even do two or three of them and with a bit of luck, be able to make slight changes in order to show that I have the slightest degree of control. We'll see.

Hopefully I'll get a start made on Saturday of this weekend coming. All going well.

Tune in ........ It could be quite entertaining.

    Cheers

    Toto,

All of my models that I have weathered, have been sprayed with a clear matt (acrylic) sealer. Dullcote (Testors) or even Humbrol Matt Clear will do the job. If you can find this Humbrol product : http://www.modelsforsale.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=403622-Humbrol-150ml-S6049-Acrylic-Spray-150ml---Matt-Varnish , it should do the job as well. You can even use this to seal the model once you have finished with the powders.

If you intend using the Isopropyl (IPA) method, spray your model first with the clear matt spray. This will act as the bonding agent for the IPA applications. The clear matt will also allow your powders to stick better to the body sides of the wagons, coaches or locos.

Just remember to apply one colour of weathering powder, then IPA, then the next colour, followed by IPA. Build the colours/tones up gradually. Don't rush !

    Cheers, Gary.

Toto with that new Hammer Avatar if you give it a bash there won't be much left:avatar:

And no you can't go too far wrong, if you do it just means it's going from a lightly weathered tank to a heavly weathered tank and you don't tell any one that it was only ment to be lightly weathered just add more dirt to cover any mistakes :giggle::thumbs:
