    of course I can,

not 100% sure that the mashima isn't correct, thats just my initial thoughts. but ant changes will be notified for sure.

now ... another couple of pics. the splash plates have been laminated into position. took a wee while for me as they are fiddly and I wanted them neat. some folks could undoubtedly do them faster.

Anyway .... here we are .... jesus , that brandy is monumental .....

and one from the side .....

now .... something that is new to me ...... splasher plate tops are to be fitted and the recommendation is that they are annealed prior to fitting ( im assuming to make them more pliable prior to bending to shape ).

    this should be fun ....

    cheers

    Cracking on mate, well done!
The motor, if you do need to change it, I would recommend a 16-24. I've used one in my Andrew Barclay and its spot on. Plenty of power. The only thing you need to check is if a smaller motor will fit your gearbox.

    Cheers, Pete.

    Thanks for that Pete.

I'll keep that in mind as the existing motor at first attempt would seem way to big. I may need to speak to Gladuator for their advice as well.

Major issues with the motor fit. It's way too big. Solution could be to either get smaller motor .... or ..... ahem ...... adjust the boiler casting.

I don't believe it cant be overcome or these kits wouldn't sell ..... I hope. :avatar: probably just me having a thick moment :avatar:

So today is unravelling the motor issue and also locating the exact position of two holes for inserting self tapping fixing screws as the instructions are not toto proof.

I think the members ( especially newer ones ) will be getting the mark of my skill level by now. :avatar:..... pretty awful. :avatar:

I hope it gives them encouragement in that if I can do it and dont mind looking like a twat ....... so can they. :avatar:

    Cheers

Make sure you only use the (usually supplied with the motor) correct short fixing screws Toto, otherwise longer ones may pass through and damage the motor. You may be able to grind or cut away some of the resin boiler to clear the motor you have, but if so, make sure you use a mask when doing so as it's not nice stuff to breathe in!

    Thanks Keith,

I have done an email of enquiry to Mr Gladiator. I believe he is very helpful in providing assistance / guidance where possible so I'll slow the build down until I know what the score is. There is another question with regards to the drilling of two holes for self tappers on the footplate which is not too clear. I've asked for a little pointer on that as well.

No complaint on my behalf as these issues are every bit as much to do with my experience as anything else. It's a great kit otherwise and I'd buy it all over again in a heart beat.

The above two queries will also assist in the building of the Ramsbottom 0 - 4 - 2 crane version that I also have as the etches are very similar. Just slightly longer .... so two birds with one stone springs to mind.

All going well the crane version will be quite soon afterwards as part of my maintainence rake. Maybe after my two compartment brake third from Connoiseur models when that arrives. They should all be built before furlough is over ( going in the basis of say one month from now ..... wishful thinking maybe ).

    Cheers

Quick response from Mr Gladiator ( he is currently in Taiwan )

Positioning of two self tapping fixings is non critical so a level of self assumption and flexibility there ( great news ).

The motor intended was a smaller Mashima motor ( which may be difficult to source ) and more suited to 4mm scale. So .... the search is on fir a motor and appropriate gear set.

    Cheers

No worries Kev. The motor fitting side of things will stall until I source a smaller motor and appropriate gear but I gave that in hand.

The building of the body should continue tonight.

Thanks for watching. Glad it's of interest.

    Cheers for now

    2 x mashima 1628 motors and 36 : 1 all metal gearboxes to fit 3 / 16 axles sourced from Slaters £ 150.00 for the pair ...... ouch.

Ordered anyway as they are needed. I'd imagine a few days before delivered, maybe Monday/ Tuesday so carry on with the body until than. If I come to a halt ..... the two compartment brake third has arrived from Jim so that is good to go.

    Cheers

PS thanks to Rob fir offering up sourcing assistance. Much appreciated ..... the search is off. :avatar:

If it's any help, 'Scalelink' still list stocks of Mashima 10, 12 and 16 series motors, details/sizes/prices on their website www.scalelink.co.uk. Usual disclaimer, no connection except as a satisfied customer. They also do gearboxes if required.
    Keith.
