Heres a few pictures of an O-16.5mm loco recently purchased from Bingley Model Works. Bought completely on a whim

Its a 3d printed resin model designed to fit directly onto the original hornby pug chassis with no modifications. I'm sure i have a smokey joe lying around somewhere....

The kit is based on a Kerr Stuart Tattoo slighty squashed to fit the chassis. 20210409_155310.jpg 20210409_155329.jpg 20210409_155334.jpg 20210409_155345.jpg 20210409_155354.jpg 20210409_155400.jpg 20210409_155408.jpg 20210409_155801.jpg

These kits are designed as a cheap starter kit to fit on a cheap readily available hornby chassis. Due to this they have been shortened somewhat to fit on that chassis. it may go against the spirit that these kits where originally aimed at but after buying a drawing of Corris railway No.7 i decided to see if anything could be done to make them a bit more accurate to the original.

Placing the body on the drawing i could see that from the rear of the saddle tank forward, the body is accurate. The firebox area has been shortened by 3mm and the cab by about 6mm. This is in no way a critism as it is deliberate by the manafucturer and the aim of them was to make an inexpensive loco for beginers.

First thing i did was to cut the cab rear off with a razor saw.

I then chopped off the cab. (ignore the work related stuff below I was having a break from the real work).

I then added some laminates of plasticard. one 2mm and one 1mm thick

Fast forwarding a little. I glued the cab back on and made a new cab floor and some small infills of plasitcard where glued in at the cab top.

I have also filled in the left cab side as the cab should only open to the right. some car body filler was used to hide the gaps. Just need a cleenup a new cab roof and a chassis.....

I remember reading an article in a magazine where the author had built a brass chassis for a resin kit that was designed for the Hornby Smoky Joe chassis, I think it may have been from Brassmasters, I will see if I can find it. (I never chuck anything away, thats why it takes so long to find stuff :whatever::whatever:)

    Cheers, Pete.

Thanks that will be helpful. The closest chassis kit in can find is a branchlines one for the peco tallylyn. I might try a dapol/hornby Lancashire and yorkshire pug which is only 1mm out on the wheelbase and has similar semi solid wheels. If the motor will fit it will be a better option than the smokey joe chassis
