    G`day Folks,

I`m back on here armed with pictures this time......Hey, Hey!!!

Now we were talking about umbrella struts as guttering. The stuff I am using is 3mm wide.....9 scale inches.....too big!!!....however when fitted over and onto the edge of the card roof, a good deal of the profile disappears behind the card to leave us with a considerably slimmer profile. Artistic license is required to some extent but I feel the look of it is quite OK.....so there you are???

This is the first piece I fitted. The challenge was to create some ends for it.

The ends are best displayed below on the second piece I made. The method I use is this. I draw out a short length of electrical tape.....sticky side up. I put a drop of Superglue on the sticky side of the tape and then you press the end of the guttering down onto the glued area and hold until the glue grabs. Then put it aside to dry. When dry ....hold the end down firm against your cutting mat and trim away the excess tape. Paint the guttering your desired colour.

The first piece painted and fitted

    The second piece again

A long piece for the awning.....only fitted minutes ago.

I have also been re- skinning the chimneys supplied with the kit to match the rest of the building. The chimney pots in the kit are the rolled up paper type....YUCK !!!!!.....so to cut a long story short I`ve used some rivets instead. They had to be modified by grinding down the diameter of the head to something that resembled the profile of a chimney pot. Below is an example of the rivets I am using.

And this is how they scrub up when modified and painted and stuck into position.

You can also achieve a nice crisp corner on the Scalescenes paper by pinching it at each corner prior to sticking each side. Once you pinch the top to indicate exactly where the corner should be, you can then pull the paper back and fold a sharp crease into it and then glue that face in place and then repeat for the next and so on until finished

So this is where we are at the moment. Two more chimneys to go and a few more bits of guttering.

Well folks it looks nearly finished but there are still a number of things to do before I will leave it alone and move onto something else. Those window sills for example have to be dirtied up a bit and there are other similar things to do. This kit has come a long way from it`s original look but I think it`s worth the journey for me.

    More as it happens

PS.....Wish me luck.....I`m off to the Cardiologist tomorrow for my 6 monthly stress test......I`m up for it so it should be no problem.......off to bed now....Goodnight All.

That's transformed a so-so kit into something rather special.

    Thanks Guys,

Yes I think so Paul and it encourages me to tackle some of the other kits that I have. It`s better than selling them off and going completely scratch build. Scalescenes would be a great alternative but I might as well try and improve what I`ve got first.

I survived the stress test.....all good and fitness etc. on track, however the cardio has noticed an increase in my PSA reading compared to previous years. It has increased significantly although still well within the healthy range. So I will be back to the GP and possibly off to the Urologist for testing and a specialist opinion .???

Looking good Gormo, excellent transformation.:thumbs::thumbs:

I dare say the specialist will think the model looks great too, although the urologist may just take the #iss out of you...:avatar::avatar:

    Cheers, Gary.

    Thanks Guys,

Well I`m off to the specialist next Tuesday 17th so we will find out then what is in store for me.

In the meantime.....press on with model railways and forget about the doctor.

I have finally finished the station building. Signs have been added, guttering is finished along with down pipes and the posts on the awning have been fitted and all the chimneys sorted.

I also made a replacement valance for the awning. It simply lays over the original.

The booking hall sign is glued to a piece of guitar string which in turn is connected to the wall via a pin hole and glued into position.

    Timetables on the walls.

And now onto the next project.

    More as it happens.

    Thanks Guys,
    Working escalator.......nah!! that`s too hard Ian.....I`ll settle for a lift.....that`s easier.
Yes Paul.....it`s getting some treatment. The bricks obviously to match the station, the roof and especially the flat roof areas over the stairs. I think corrugated roofing over them.
I have also found a similar bridge in Cornwall which seems to have had the timber panelling fitted inside an exterior steel frame. So I am looking at going down that route. I may have to invest in some plastic angle or indeed modify and old Airfix kit I have hanging about waiting for a make over.

    Crikey Ian.....don`t know `bout that ????
Anyway folks.....the footbridge has had some thought about how to proceed and so away we go again.
The original kit is supposed to be built like the pic in the link, however I am not too keen on the brick base support for the bridge.
    http://www.metcalfemodels.com/footbridge
The kit is also rather flat and even though it has a GWR look about it, I think it can be improved and made to look a bit more like some of the prototypes built in this way.
I am not going to use the brick base but rather adapt and use parts from an old footbridge that has seen better days. I will use the parts below to support the bridge. I have to airbrush these parts once I get some more thinners.

The stairs also have to be adapted to the new set up ,as before in the original kit ,they were set into the brick work that I won`t be using now.

More packing will sort out any height issues. This is just a test fit to establish what adjustments have to be made.

I have created some new strips to overlay the original printed version. This hopefully, will add a bit more relief to the current flat surfaces.

Here are some parts ready for the treatment.

The main roof will get the tile strips make over and the flat roof areas over the stairs may get either corrugated sheets or black bitumen roofing paper????.....don`t know yet.???
At least it`s under way now and it can be worked out as I go along.
    More as it happens.

Gormo has the bulldog clips set up around the outside of his garage, known as the Gormatic Snappy Security System. If anyone makes a foul step, snappo, your clipped !!

Now, on a serious note, (not that being clipped by 8000 bulldog clips isn't serious enough...), I can see a lot of trusses and I beams in the background of your pics, will these pieces play an important part in the build ??

    Cheers, Gary.

The Gormo Snappy Security System ????......sounds better when you say it like Sylvester the Cat!!!

    Sufferin` suckatash!!!!

Now Gary......observant one!!....you have noticed my pile of beams and trusses. They were trialed for parts and ideas and alas finally rejected because they are too heavy looking. They were part of my suck it and see program. I sucked them and spat them out.

You have to try these things. It`s all part of the process for me.....narrowing down the possibilities into definites and then moving forward with what looks right to me.

They were considered for making a central support for the stair cases, however I have two other ideas now for that. One is to use bicycle spoke posts, which will look better and the other is to partially enclose the under stairs to create a storage lock up or electrical room as per prototype. The prototypes seem to have done the infill as an after thought and therefore they have used some sort of paneling as opposed to the complete brick support as in the model version. I think artistic license has been used in the model to accommodate ease of build and structural strength.

I will be reversing one set of stairs as well to possibly better suit the station set up. The model is not meant to be reversed in any way so this will be a bit of bashing.

Anyway ....we`ll see how it goes????.......worst case scenario is that it will be an improvement on the original model.
