    Hi Gormo
Don't know if. au would work, the text would de upside down, we have enough trouble getting Toto to understand with out him standing on his head. :avatar:

Servos work at a nominal 5V - perfect for arduinos, I will look up the MERG site for the controller specs, I have made one of the servo kits up, as intend to do the same migration in the future.
Of course you could just fit the point motor under the point, and use the broken adaptor plates as a base.
To fit, using a pin vice and 1mm drill, drill from above through the hole in the tie bar at both ends of thr throw. On the underside of the baseboard draw a line joining the holes but extending 25mm in either direction, this will help align the baseplate. As your underlay is so thick, I'd drill an 8mm hole in the centre between the original holes, stopping when you reach the underlay then use a scalpel to clear the rest.I used a dremel with a 3mm burr to cut a slot.Same method would work for installing servos as well.

No Mate.....it`s you guys who are the wrong way around...not us...Sheeeesshhh.....I thought everybody knew that.!!!!
Well Paul thanks for the tips. I would still want to locate solenoids or servos on top of the boards so the underneath version is definitely not a goer here. These are future hidden areas where the workings won`t be seen and access from the top is far better for maintenance as per the repair yesterday.
Do you have to be a member of MERG to access info and projects etc.

    Hi Gormo

Not sure if you need to be a member to see the page, try and see

The link to the page is

    http://merg.org.uk/merg_kitlocker/section.php?id=2

If you can get access, then you are looking for the servo4 - kit 75.
the "i" button is the instructions to build it, and the "tb" button is the technical bulletin explaining the theory and usage instructions.

Essentially you set the max and min throws of each servo using either the serial com port of a pc, or a stand alone Servoset 2 kit. Once set unless you need to replace the servo everything stays set.
There is also an alternative program chip that simulates signal bounce.

Cost £6.30 for the servo4, and £20 for the servoset2.

Just doing some crimbo shopping on amazon and found these

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00J593TY6?refRID=YPWPA08B0ZMF977DAMTG&ref_=pd_ys_c_rfy_560798_7

£15 for 10 servos, me thinks I may be converting sooner rather than later - don't panic Toto, not before the buildings are done.

a 5V wall wart - watch the current rating

or rig up a psu from scratch, replace the 7812 with a 7805 for 5V out

This will work from an 16V ac out from a controller, e.g. H&M Duette, Gaugemaster, Hornby etc.

    First of All,
Apologies for not replying sooner.....we`ve had a power outage in the local area somewhere and lost internet and phone for a good part of the day.
Now....the dark side........Oh my goodness gracious me.....my head is spinning already. Thanks for the info Paul. I will have to try and get my head around what you have sent and attempt to understand it.
It will be a post Christmas and New Year thing though because family commitments require my full attention at the moment.
Speaking of Christmas......thanks guys for whoever is responsible for placing my Christmas video at the head of the front page of the forum. It`s nice to be appreciated in that way and an honour to be there.
    Best Wishes to All
    Cheers
    Gormo

Paul - I don't know whether to be pleased or annoyed... about your dangly bits (bait).

Now, for your information and anyone else who reads this, what I'm about to say is only me thinking out loud so not written in stone... and defo no commitment... it's just expansion of thoughts whiring round in my head.

I've been thinking about the possibility of maybe... after Christmas... just maybe... building a plank type layout - 3 boards of around 4' x 2'... two scenic one fiddle... no hard and fast rules so far, but toying with a single line branch Midland or maybe GWR... dcc and... wait for it... maybe a dabble into servos for the points.

I've only a 'laymans' knowledge of electrickery gismos so would need some advice... maybe a laymans how to... into how I would deal with setting these up on such a layout. eg why do you need a great big computer fan in such an arrangement??? I understand the 5v wall wart but what current rating would you be aiming for with these servos?

As a part-time Jedi the dark side has an unknown and dangerous appeal to me but, in my 70 odd years so far, understanding of it has been extremely difficult. Would I need my light sabre on such a mission? Dare I go where I've never been before????

    __________________________________________

PS... Can someone tell me why we need the below information on if and when I edit my post????? Seems a complete waste of space to me.....

    G`day Folks,
    Aaaahhh??????....Derh????.....what day is it???
Too much partying going on here in Gormo`s house.........it`s good though..http://www.click
Well folks.....just a quick update.....Santa brought Gormo some little additions for his railway.....good old Santa....what a top bloke...

A nice little Foden truck. The truck may not fit the period I model, but I like it, so Rule #1 is invoked once more.

And also a superb steam traction engine. This will end up in a field somewhere on the layout......possibly......we`ll see??

So that`s the sum total of model railway info I can provide at the moment for GCJ. I won`t be back to business until the family leaves us shortly. In the meantime it`s party on.!!!!!
