Yes mate that would most likely work. It would in effect turn the card into plastic.
The only problem I can see with it would be the loss of flexibility between the posts and rails, which allows you to negotiate uneven ground by just bending the card up or down. Once the fencing is glued in place, it`s actually quite robust, surprisingly.?

A little more detail added today by resurrecting some old bits and pieces.

The guy on the left is a converted Dapol railway worker. He has had his hat removed and also his little tin lunchbox has been replaced with a staff for moving his flock about.
Unfortunately a couple have got over the fence and farmer George is working out what to do.




There must be a way to encourage them out again....we`ll see.??



We also now have a footpath sign.

I pushed on a little more today with some security fencing on the airfield.
I still need another two sections but it seems to be working out OK. It`s had a reasonable life, this fence, but it`s coming up for some maintenance.




The fence has been placed in such a way that it suggests the runway runs at an angle, so that the far end of the runway is somewhere around behind those trees on the right.




Initially, I thought I would run the fence line parallel to the tree line, however that draws your eye along the runway at a right angle to the back scene. That`s OK, but I find it more visually interesting the way I`ve done it.
Of course I`m pinching Gary`s ideas again.....don`t tell him folks.....let`s keep it our little secret......I know I can trust you guys.....




Some of you may have guessed that the fence is made from nylon fly screen wire. That`s why it looks a bit heavy in the pics. The posts are 1.5mm x 40mm nails and the bars are 1mm gal wire. The posts and bars were soldered together and the mesh was Superglued on. The fence was sprayed a Matt Earthy colour and rust and stains were applied by dry brushing pastels.
In the flesh, as always, it looks better than the cruel close up. The viewer who visits the railway with a critical, analytical eye will no doubt chastise me for my deviations from scale accuracy,
however the people who generally visit me are not like that, so I can keep Fritz the Rottweiler chained up under the layout to keep them safe. ......Hhhmmm... note to self....must feed the dog.?
This really has been more of an exercise basically to see if the idea would work...........at the end of the day, if I decide I don`t like it, I can change it.

PS.......I tried giving the runway a haircut with a Number 1 comb on my hair clippers.........not much difference if any, so it needs a finer comb. I may have to adapt one????
I use these clippers to trim my beard, so next time you see me on Gormo`s Shed and I appear to have a green tinge to my beard, you`ll know why.....static grass in the clippers.

Your question " Have you build the fence the one size (height) right through or does it taper down to vegetables the illusion of length ? .........I know this must be the code we agreed to use......so ....nudge , nudge , wink, wink....
" The vegetables were fresh when the illusion of length was half the height of the carrots "..........that`s the ratio I used.......page 3 of the code book.

Well howdy train nuts !!!!
Another section of fence is in the preparation mode.
I have come up with a different method which makes the whole process a lot easier, so I will probably cover that in the next Gormo`s Shed.

The glue is still drying on this lot of mesh




The mesh needs to be trimmed and the whole thing will then be sprayed and weathered like the first fence.




It will join the corner of the other fence on the right, yet the other end will need a sharp bend in it to go around the corner and behind the Nissen huts. Then I will have to determine how much more fence I need to complete the job.

Greetings fellow enthusiasts,
The new section of fence has been sprayed and suitably distressed like the first lot and was fitted today.




It has reached the near wall of the long Nissen hut, so another section will have to be made to carry it on through to the back scene.




I`ve also decided to use one of my tractors in the scene. It`s role is to tow / shunt planes around on the field etc.




It was also suggested a little while back that among other things that could decorate the scene, an old MG would be appropriate. I don`t have an old TC or TD or older, but I do have a Morgan which seems to fit in OK.




So this an overall view, showing a scene with some suitably distressed bits and pieces which I hope would be appropriate for a privately owned ageing airfield.




I also need to get in there now and add some bushes and weeds and general odds and sods, to soften the fence`s visual impact on the grass. To me , at the moment it looks like it was just plonked on there. So that`s the fun bit for me.....blending it in and justifying it`s existence. I`ll do the last section of fence first though and then attack the whole lot.
