A while back SWMBO & I took the dog, and my camera for a walk through the Hilltown and into the centre, heres some of the pics. The Flounder has even been for a pint here .... its been painted before the flounder was here I like the changing roof heights YTou can see under the layers the old shop front Don't you just love the corner buildings Just look at the drop in height, plus the way the top line of the shops stays horizontal, so its masked by changing the number of rows of smaller windows This Pic was used as the basis of one of my models, just got to do the shops And a few views of the rears This frontage I would like to model, low relief behind the station, as it is actually on Victoria Road Paul
Great pics Paul. Good to see that they offered you some inspiration for the layout. Like Matt said, "Lost count of the number of times I've gone into Edinburgh, Rushing about and not really looking up at the beautiful buildings all around me." There is inspiration all around us, I guess its a case of 'you can't see the trees for the forest'. I can see plenty of similarities in the Aussie buildings to what you have outside your door. Then again, the buildings I posted were mostly built by UK convicts and craftsmen. Cheers, Gary.
I may add that the pub was particularly good and served a decent pint as well. I'd go back there again. It would be good for a night out if you did not gave to drive. A bit of a working mans pub I think. Cheers Toto
Rather than taking loads of photos of lots of buildings I was starting a photo album of prototype buildings that I took a particular fancy to, unfortunately they are on my old computer and that is a gonner, I look like starting over again. Pete.
That really helps with understanding where you are going with your layout Paul... immediately recognizable with the work you have done so far. cheers Marty
Hi Paul, A good mix of buildings there with some nice ornate features. The spires and ornate window stonework surrounds would be a bit of a challenge but worth it. Cheers Toto
