David as I'm going to be practicing building card kits, Once you make up your mind what the layout is going to be I'll maybe attempt one in O gauge for you
Any more thoughts on what it will be ?
    Cheers

:hismiley: Tany top start with the LIMA 4F I think most of us who start out in O have one you can do a heap with that model as you progress your skills

Lots of detail can go into the body then you can go all out and build a brass chassis for it and put a flash motor in it then it will pull a huge train.
I will take some photos of the lima 4F's we have to show you what can be done, as they are British they live down at my dads place on his layout with all the other Brit's you won't believe they are the same starting model as yours.http://www.click

    Ian,

You of all people should know that the majority of those 24 hours are for the consumption of Vino Tinto, or one of its closely allied acquaintances

I thought 24hrs were reserved for Toto's requests, and the rest of the day was our own.

Now Tanygaer, time to roll up the sleeves, its going to get dirty

Indeed, I am about to go down the office and start moving things around, after all my loco might be here today or Monday, I have no track to put it on, come to that I have no space to put the track on even if I had any track.

Then there is my wagon to build, thats not arrived yet, which is probably a good things as I have nowhere to build it yet.

Its going to be a busy weekend.

And thats before Toto, starts helping you to fill it :avatar:

Check out Parkside Dundas for Slaters wheels

    http://www.parksidedundas.co.uk/acatalog/SLATER_S_WHEELS.html

Now for a question for the O gauge guys, which wheel type should Tanygaer be getting, coarse or fine ?

I assume Tany will be using Peco track & points - unless he's going hardcore, and going to hand build them ala Steve Fay (maybe for the next plank eh Tany), and he has a Lima 4F.

    G`day David,

Just a suggestion to get your feet wet in model railways.

You could build a portable test track just to get the feel for laying track and understanding size constraints. You could get a plank (1800mm x 300mm x 20mm ?) from the hardware maybe wide enough to take two O Gauge parallel tracks and possibly 6 feet long. Add one point about 2 feet from one end. Don`t worry about baseboard framing, just use the plank as is.

You can connect your power feed via 2 alligator clips clipped onto the end of one of the tracks.

It will give you some experience and also will come in handy in the future. You can work at the dining room table testing and adjusting your rolling stock. When it`s not required you can stand it on it`s end in a spare corner.

Make sure you have some form of buffer stop on each end though.....very important!!!!.....you don`t want locos leaping off the ends.

    Thanks Gormo,

I will give that a go over the next week, whilst at home, it will give me a break from coding and computers which are starting to get my goat already.

Hi Paul and Tany the fine wheels are the ones you want to get esp if you are planing to use Peco track.
The coarse are really for the older style track standards with the coarse rail etc

As you are building kits for your plank I would recommend finescale track, either Peco or C&L, C&L is more realistic but more expensive, yer pays yer money etc etc, personally I would go for Peco, you can usually get it from your local model shop, as for wheels, finescale every time, you have much more choice, plus most RTR is finescale should you want to buy some.
