    Hi Peter,

I'll see if I can work it out. It's been ages since I've had to link to utube .

See what I can find out if I'm not beaten to it by somebody else.

    Cheers

    Toto

    G`day Peter,
The software that runs this forum and many others for that matter, functions very well and when opened in just about any browser, reads and functions correctly. I am on Windows 10 these days and Windows new browser Edge works fine reading the forum, along with Chrome, Firefox, Opera and a new one I tried recently called Vivaldi which is a Chrome variant.
You will note that I have been talking about reading the forum with these browsers.
Now when it comes to content or writing on the forum, the story changes. They will all allow you to add a written reply to a topic but, and this is the big one, when it comes to adding pictures and especially video, Firefox is the only browser that will work in complete harmony with the forum software.
Why?????......don`t know......but that`s the way it is.....it`s something in the bowels of the software packages and applies to other forums running the same forum software as well.
So what do we do.?????.......we use Firefox to participate on this forum. This could change in the future but at the moment we have to use the best tool for the job, which is Firefox.
There you have it my friend.....I hope this may help you to more easily add content to the forum.

PS....I added this reply with Edge

Thanks Mate,BTW, loved your videos on drainpipes and chimney pots.I have a lathe in my workshop so today I will be trying the pop rivet conversion without the need for an electric drill.Just 2 points about the drain pipe video if I may. Please don't be offended as over 50 years in the game, one learns to survive.Using a file without a handle is extremely dangerous as the exposed tang has caused many injuries.I would suggest when holding an electric in a vice that some sort of soft jaws be used to minimise damage to the drill

Another browser worth a look at is Palemoon

    https://www.palemoon.org/

It's a fork of the Mozilla Firefox code and works with the forum.

After reading Gormos reply regarding using Firefox to upload videos to the forum I thought I would give it a try as I was unsuccessful previously using Chrome, couldn't even get the video I was trying to send to even open on youtube, works just fine on Chrome so summats not right!

I've just used two methods, the browser is firefox version 53.0.3 First clicked the youtube button in the button bar, then posted the share link from the youtube sight. This will produce a line of code until you Post the reply

Second method Just paste the link in to the post

    https://youtu.be/imTvtJO6T5o

I tend to do both methods as some browsers have problems displaying the video in to the post.

I'm not sure if this question is still relevant as I know you have recently upgraded the forum software.

I've just uploaded a YouTube video onto my layout page.
I didn't use ant video button or anything from the taskbar shown.

I simply copied the link from the YouTube video I wanted to upload and then copied it into my reply.
Once copied and pasted, I removed the 's' from 'https' to give it the correct code, and the video preview screen shows in my post as it should now.

I'm using Google Chrome on Windows 7 for your information.

    David ;)

    G`day David,
I have done exactly the same thing when posting a video. I have pasted a link into the post and the video appears.
Now at this stage I am not sure whether the embed function in the reply menu means that the video is actually stored on the forum, thereby taking up unnecessary space, or whether indeed it performs the same function.????
I would have to take advice from Paul on that one.
At this stage........if the link works, then use it as surely it must only be a link..??? and therefore does not impact the forum storage.

    Hi David

As you have found posting the link works, you can also click on the film icon upload_2018-2-28_23-52-26.png

This will bring up a media link button

    upload_2018-2-28_23-53-24.png

    paste in the youtube link

    upload_2018-2-28_23-56-37.png

    click on embed

You will not see the video until you post the reply

    Paul

    Hi Gormo,

That's not strictly true, I post regularly on the Guild forum and Western Thunder (both of which use Xenforo) via Chrome and I have never had an issue when posting Youtube videos, or anything else for that matter. Ironically, the only forums where I have issues posting are those that don't use Xenforo as the forum software:(

Err, think you'll find Gormo was referring to the old forum software when he posted that Rob.

    G`day Rob,
The posting you refer to was posted October 2 .....2016 and was relevant then on the old software.
It`s not relevant now for this new software, which seems to work with all sorts of browsers, but as you know , when we transferred all the data over from the previous software / site , the idea was to retain all the work members had put into their posts and keep moving forward, hopefully.?
So at times you may find discussions on topics that are now out of date and don`t apply here, but at least we have a record of them and they may be useful at some time in the future.

Oops sorry Gormo:oops:, because it had appeared on recent posts I never checked the date I (wrongly) assumed it related to the recent migration.

Lesson learned check the date before bashing keyboard:hammer:
