Maybe after the exhibition I could do a tutorial on weathering the Class 20... :scratchchin: But I really must pull my finger out on the Townstreet plank. Slowly but surely it is coming together... ;)
Toto, are you sure the squeal wasn't the cat caught between the buffers and the loco ?? :avatar:

If Toto tried running over the cat, the screaming would be from Toto, the Baggy (the cat), can be very vindictive and has the claws and speed to inflict pain.:avatar:

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get to Sydney to attend..

    Hey Gary!,

With the base board, is it safe to assume it is layed out the same way as the backboard, or very similar?

    Hi Veers,

The baseboard is built the same way as the back scene board. I used the 11mm x 18mm pine as a frame and the baseboard is thin 3 ply. One thing I had done after testing, checking all electrical connections/components, and testing again, was to sandwich the baseboard with all the electricals (bus wire, point polarity switching wires etc) inside. I recommend you DON'T do this as if there is ever an issue, you need to be able to access the wiring.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Hi Gary

I have been looking at how you set up your backboard and sides. Iam getting ready to finalise mine.

I can see how you have constructed and attached the backboard to the layout.

How did you attach the sides.

The bridge end. I can see you have screwed the side to the bridge. Have you glued it to the backboard as well?

At the pub end or concrete loader end, have you glued the side to the side of the baseboard and the side of the backboard.(diferent to the bridge end which looks like it sits on the baseboard)

    Hope that make sense

    Hi Cameron,

The 'pub end' of the layout I have attached a sheet of plywood (3 ply) directly to the back scene frame and the baseboard. In the pic below, you can see where I left a 3mm gap between the MDF concrete and the plywood end. This allowed the foam core/printed end scene to drop down below ground level and not sit above it.

Further in the post is a drawing of the set up.

You are correct in saying that the bridge end scene is screwed to the bridge. It was not glued to the back scene in the corner, but I disguised the join by gluing green foliage (Poplar tree) to the back scene board. Note that the picture of the Poplar tree extends past the top of the scene.

Here you can see the plywood secured to the frame of the back scene and the baseboard. A thin white line can be seen just above the top of the black plywood which is the 3mm foam core scene.

A drawing of how it all goes together. The blue on the ends of the diagram is the 3mm foam core. The black line on the left diagram is the plywood.

    Hope this helps !

    Cheers, Gary.

Well it looks like Industry Lane will be on the road again in a few weeks time. Another exhibition has been booked in for the layout, just waiting approval. Now I just need to do a few repairs, a tidy up and put the sound decoders into the Class 33 and Class 128 Parcel Van... ;)

    Cheers, Gary.
