I've seen lots of fences like that Gary, suitably unkept

Just shows you've got good eyes, drilling holes for wire in 1.5mm x 2mm Styrene strip.

Thanks for the positive comments. There was a little 'creative juice' in the bottom of my tank afterall..! Hopefully have some more greenery done tomorrow as I have a few trees that need planting. ;)

Trust me Ed, my eyes ain't that good. After drilling 96 holes, I doubt my eyes are getting any better... :squint: squint :squint: squint...!

    Cheers, Gary.

Chris, I have plenty of styrene and wire...

Then again, modelling in 7mm, you may be best using Bass wood or balsa for the posts as the grain in the timber would be much more pronounced than would I could achieve with styrene scrubbed with coarse sand paper !

    Cheers, Gary.

I have just ordered a bunch of scenery items that should bring Industry Lane to life. So at the moment, the trees may not be planted...

    Cheers, Gary.

*Edit*..., Couldn't help myself, the trees went in and I'll post up a pic once the PVA dries. ;)

As I mentioned earlier, I couldn't help myself and so I planted some trees...

^ Two poplars were planted as well as the usual leaf litter on the ground.

Had a delivery of some scenic items and weathering products today.

The Joefix Studios carton is fine foliage and very, very fine twigs. Great for making small shrubs/weeds. The item to the right of Joefix is rubberised horsehair. I have been seeking this in Oz for quite some time and then the little orange bag (Treemendous) is wig hair, great for making weedy growths and for tree branching. All good.

Life Colour Dirty Effect, leaking and stains will be great for locos, oil tankers etc and the MIG product is a oil and grease stain wash. Maybe some weathering coming up soon ! ;)

I also had a delivery from Hattons this morning as well. A single slip, 5 x Seep point motors, rail joiners, Ratio oil tank kit and 3 assorted US wagon kits, all for Jack's layout. I have all the timber ready to go. Stay tuned for Jack's thread.

    Cheers, Gary.

The life colour stuff sounds interesting Gary.

The Mig products are great I have a selection of them and they work well.

The one I use the most is the aged wood wash.
the oil and grease stain one works a treat for fuel tanks, Axl boxes etc etc.

When I was modelling NSWGR HO, I used a wash made from Floquil grimey black and thinners to colour my timbers used on bridges, platform faces and coal stages. Worked a treat. As for the oil and grease wash I purchased, I could never get that oily red/black colour right. Hopefully this will cure my need for grimey, dirty, oily deposits !

    Cheers, Gary.

I have had the last two days off work as Jack has been unwell, so whilst at home I actually got to do some modelling. Industry Lane has an area that I thought was lacking interest and needed a boost. This is that area...

The area to the right of the lamp post is quite stark and desperately needs 'something'.

Whilst looking for photos of the Class 22 (weathering detail), I came across this photo (http://www.rail-online.co.uk/p661346788/h699EFE35#h699efe35)
In the photograph, a precast concrete lamp hut/engineers hut (?) can be seen, and being a simple Southern Railways design, I made my own.

I started off with some foam core, as I have plenty of it. The corners were shaved back to 45* and joined as a mitre joint.

I then needed some windows to match the one in the photograph. I have plenty of windows in my scratch building box, but not the same as shown in the photo. I did have some LMS signal box windows that were close, but needed modifying...!

So, take out one window, file the inner corners square and then carefully remove the centre frame. Measure these out to the right length and re-glue. Simple ! :whatever:

The walls were treated to some lintels and vertical struts as per the original. As can be seen below, I was going to put the door on the side, but opted for an end door.

The structure put together with roof on.

...and the reverse side. The window is not the same as the one shown in the photo, but then again, you won't see this side of the shed.

After painting and weathering, the area was prepared for planting !

The chisel does a sterling job as I didn't have a slasher in OO gauge !

    Now for some PVA...

I won't go through the steps to get the gravels and flocks down, but now the scene looks like this...

Still a few detail items to go in and I need to purchase some fine chains (I'm sure I have some, somewhere...) for the stirrup directly opposite the door.

I'm thinking that I need to extend a mesh fence alongside the fuel siding line, seen in the background... Maybe later.

    Cheers, Gary.

Jack said 'thank you' for the get well wishes. He has another visit with the doctor tomorrow afternoon (had a visit yesterday and last Wednesday) and if things are not better, he will be going for x-rays. Jack was put on a course of anti-biotics and steroids, as well as ventolin, and he is slowly recovering, but the doctor doesn't think he is recovering quick enough, since he visited the doctor last week. The doctor has changed the anti-biotics and upped the dosage. He has this nasty cough now that seems very hard to kick. His breathing has improved immensely.

Now, why does photographs bring out all those things that make you niggle ?? I just found some more areas that require repair, or hiding ! :D

    Cheers, Gary.
