I have to agree with you there Gormo, Aust Post has definitely gone backwards. You would think that buying Star Track Express that parcel delivery would be far more efficient... :whatever:

Ok, so what has happened this weekend...

Getting the factory up to scratch was one of the main tasks on the agenda. This involved adding roof top and side wall details, adding roller doors and general overall weathering from the roof down.

Making more trees was another task, to help fill in some empty scenery spots. Pics on this should follow tomorrow evening.

    So, the factory...

Roof top details include the main air conditioning unit, roof top vents - both for the factory and the toilets and some roof top ducting. On the side of the building, dust extraction units were added plus a dust collection shed. There is a pipe leading from the extraction units to the shed, but not in the photo... ;)

Looking across the front and top of the whole building. The building still needs bedding in, but I'm waiting for the glue to dry on top of the front left column, as it had fallen off earlier... :whatever: The roof has been heavily weathered to represent dry, but dirty concrete. I think I'll add a little rust staining around the base of the vents and ducting. ;)

Looking in under the loading dock where the roller doors have been added. The roller doors have been weathered with a little rust and the concrete finished off. Some staining was done to the columns as well, but very lightly, as most of the muck is actually on the opposite side of the columns.

Tomorrow the whole lot will be bedded in and the scenics filled in around the front and sides of the building.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Gary,

Looks like another contender for the brickpit. It will make it easy to talk about platform 1 mrc with the public with a quality layout to attract them.

Thank you Toto, Pete and Cameron.
Pete, I won't be doing any interior detailing as this layout was being constructed for Jack. I have a time frame to have it completed, about 5 weeks. The building is now sited or I should say fixed into position. No getting inside now !
Cameron, you better read up on the thread as you'll be at Thornleigh sharing the responsibilities of P1MRC ! :avatar:
    Cheers, Gary.

    Thanks Dave.

I actually though that I wouldn't be ready for the exhibition, but I should be ! ;)

At one stage I thought that the layout would appear as a 'part way through the build' exhibit !!
Not a great deal to do now, just finessing the finer points of detail... :D

I have decided to leave the fiddle yard exposed as last year I had plenty of the public asking how it all works behind the screen. Something I have considered is a stock shelf above the fiddle yard to show off some of my other models.

    Cheers, Gary.

Wouldn't have mattered finished or not Gary the layout looks Superb as it is,it would be good to show the public the process of building a layout

Your Layot would be in the running for the award this year too.
Would be partial for a bribe if its good enough

    Hi Cameron
That great that your able to go down

Would you mind if I dropped round the APA box diorama
For you to take down to the show it's not real big "IKEA APA box" but will help fill the space on the P1 stand and give you somewhere to show off the Platform1 competition Prize as well.

I will not be back from the trip north by the show as our timing have well and truly, been moved Due to the Qld department of environment stuffing the parrots passports to cross the boarder around.
If something doesn't have a category it can't be done. That was until the Government minister got involved last week then it all happened, 3mts of Back and forth fixed in a couple of days.

I have recently purchased some new wagons, a locomotive and what I thought were crossbucks...

    First the wagons.

The grain wagon I bought in Sydney from Alco World. This wasn't a bad price at $25.00 (£14.25) !

The next two PRR grain wagons I purchased from Model Train Stuff in the US. At $17.99 US dollars (£13.85 or $24.30 AUD), discounted from $29.99 (USD) they are definitely a bargain !

The details in the end of the wagons and along the roof is as good as any more expensive models out there. These definitely need to be a little grubby...

The locomotive, a GP7 in Reading livery... Purchased in Sydney (Bobs Hobbies) for $70.00 (£40.00) and DCC ready, this is another bargain... :D This also needs to be dirtied up somewhat !

The details on this loco are excellent ! No adding extra pipes or hand rails, they are all on there

Complete with windscreen wipers, very fine handrails and doors that open !

The business end of town... Check out those lifting lugs on the roof..., nice ! ;)

...and last of all, what I mistook for cross bucks were in fact just laser cut timber signs, not the hole cross buck... Back to the retailer for new cross bucks, but I can still use these signs.

Well there you go. You could say that you shouldn't shop online late at night as some little mistakes creep in, especially when one is tired and doesn't read the full description...

    Cheers, Gary.

Yes I have to agree with Pete there Gary,

Excellent detail on the locos and wagons. I can just imagine what they`ll be like when you start adding your own improvements........fantastic!!!!!

And doesn`t that daylight photography make a difference. Those pics of the factory are magnificent.

Thanks Pete, Gormo, you're both right about the excellent price on the US models and why people do build North American layouts.

I have already imagined another layout where I can utilise this US stock I have amassed, but I better just stop whilst infront as I still have other projects to complete like the Industry Lane extension using my former entry in the Townstreet Plank Competition !

    Cheers, Gary.

Apart from all the chores around the house, I managed to get some weaythering underway yesterday and today. Still, I have plenty more to do including that 'new' GP7 I purchased last week.

    A couple of pics...

Well, that is the first 8 cars (wagons) finished. I have another 10 or so to go... :whatever:

On a different note, The Union Pacific made its debut in Pennsylvania at Jay Dubyew Nth Yard. The engine ran in light over the weekend with the operator evaluating the loco for a retailer !

This is the 4500hp Gas Turbine locomotive (GTEL - Gas Turbine Electric Locomotive) developed for the UP back in between 1948 and 1953. the UP took pocession of the first loco in 1952.

My friend Chris from a local hobby shop (RC Crew) has loaned this loco to me so that I can review it for him. The review will be posted on youtube and shared on here.

    *detailed bogies
    * 2 powerful 12 volt 5 pole precision skew wound Flywheel equipped motors

*operates on code 70, 83 & 100 rail, (also operates on 18" radius curves)
