    Thanks Daniel.

To tell you the truth, I haven't actually had a proper session on the layout yet, been busy getting it ready for the exhibition this coming weekend (10/11/12th June). I have recently installed three MRC decoders in my locos and two are not really playing ball... The GP40 screams everything out in anger, whilst the S4 and RSD 4/5 drops out, picks up, drops out picks up the sound constantly... I have just read about some of the issues with MRC sound decoders and in due time, these may be replaced with Tsunami-Soundtraxx decoders.

Anyway, onwards and upwards ! ;);)

    Cheers, Gary.

Well, the new caboose arrived today and it is a great little model. I'm happy with it ! :D

Over the last few days, I have been completing some of the greenery, scrub plantings along the front right hand side edge of the layout, along with planting the cross bucks.

    Cross bucks in place...

    The new caboose...

The new cabooses... Or should that be caboos-i...??

Scenery completed along the front edge in the yard...

A low down pic over the tops of the scrub...

Tonight I have cut up a container...

...and also printed out some buildings. Here is the container insitu, but not firmly planted as I have been playing around with the background prints...

The bottom of the print (above) will be fully disguised. I find that these images just give the layout a little more depth. The images are in their temporary position before setting them in, ofcourse after some of your constructive criticism !

The red barn will definitely be disguised across the front with some cunning trickery... More on this later.

So now I ask for your critcism, please be constructive ! :p

    Cheers, Gary.

A row of high bushes or short trees across the front will do it nicely Gary. Looking good anyway. Good luck for the show.

No need to wait for criticism as I haven't got any it's looking good.

I'm still working on my backscene and trying to create depth but with trees, hedges and narrowing fields, but maybe now I could think of adding an old barn in a similar fashion to you. I'll have to think on that.

    Great post. thanks

Those osborne detail parts really are fantastic, aren't they?

I've got some of those crossbucks to build in N scale, when I eventually get around to working on/replacing my N scale layout.

Nice to see your Pennsy caboose showed up! :)

Those printed buildings really make the backscene pop, nice one. :)

Interesting to know what the "cunning trickery" is Gary ;)

Back ground prints look good, although you are showing us 'cruel closeups' rather than normal viewing distance.

Very best of luck at the show.

Yes Ed, you are correct about the cruel close ups, luckily that isn't the finished item/scene... :scratchchin:

    Cheers, Gary.

    Thanks Kim.

I have actually taken leave this week from work, just to give me more time to finesse the layout with little details.

So.., I have disguised the images of the sheds/barns a little with some strategically placed scenic items...

First up, a rack of timber and a pile of off-cuts. The timber has been weathered and the pile of off-cuts is still drying/curing...

Took some time to cut up all that timber with a 1:87 scale saw... :D

...Here is where the rack of timber and weathered pile of off-cuts have ended up in the yard, amongst the piles of saw dust, a derelict shipping container and rusting 44 gallon drums...

The barn was also slightly disguised with a gate and fence across the road way. It also gives the 'road to nowhere' (a flat backscene) a destination...!

...and a pic of the overall scene. The area between the small warehouse and the furniture factory measures about 420mm/16". This now completes this area.

    Cheers, Gary.

Great work. The fence makes the barn blend in. NIce bit of trickery

The dock looks great. The rusted barrels, are they made from everyday items cut down to size or actual models heavily weathered?

    Thanks all.

Cameron, If I had more time up my sleeve (like another 2 or 3 weeks...;)) I would have made my own drums. These I purchased from Casula Hobbies. All I had to do was paint, weather and plant, simples ! :D

    Cheers, Gary.

Probably a bit late now but at a show last year I saw some printed backscene buildings mounted on thin 3mm (ish) ply or mdf cut to the shape of the building with the edges painted dark green that though flat gave a 3D impression to the building.

    Thank you Ian. :tophat:

Tonight I finally got around to increasing the rolling stock for the weekend. Straight after dinner, I sat down and completed two Proto 2000 kits, one being a flat wagon, the other a gondola.

The 50 ton flat wagon kit...

The tiny grab irons/hand rails that needed to go on, luckily there are only 8 of these and the four steps...

    The finished wagon, bar weathering...

    The 52'6" gondola...

again, more of those tiny little grab irons.., including the steps there are 21 of these little suckers to go on... Oh, the holes needed drilling out as well so they would fit...:whatever:

The finished wagon, again bar weathering...

Still have two wagons to do (box car and tanker) but they and the weathering will be for the morning, after all, it's getting late down under an I need my beauty sleep !

    Cheers, Gary.
