I have recently purchased a Jim Harris Anchorage/Oakville BR Standard 4mt 2-6-4t kit that has had a couple of owners who did not start the build and who managed to lose the instructions along the way. I have seen some posts by others who are building these kits, but had no luck when asking if anyone could share copies of the instructions. Any assistance would be appreciated.
I don't have instructions for the 2-6-4 standard tank but I do have the build instructions for the 4-6-0 class 4 standard tender loco which came from Scorpio Models as one of their Transport Age kits... this kit originated with Jim Harris and to be absolutely honest was not the easiest to build, that's not to put you off at all DG its just that some of these early kit etched parts don't necessarily fit as they should. I've also built Stanier and Fowler class 4 tanks so I'm happy to offer forum guidance if you so wish or need. Just shout up and other folk here will help with advice too if the relevent instructions remain elusive. cheers York Paul
I have this kit. I've posted about it on here. I've been away for a while and not had any chance to do any modelling. I'll see if I can find my instructions and scan them in the next few days. In typical Jim Harris style they arnt the greatest instructions. As for the kit. It's quite a tricky build. Mating the white metal cabs sides/tanks and roof to the etched parts is quite tricky and the fit isn't brilliant.. I'm in two minds to abandon mine and source the admittedly much more expensive but better quality mok kit.
Apologies to jump on the back of your thread, but a free bump! I'm in a similar position with his Britannia Kit if anyone happens to have a copy of instructions for that....!
Josh probably best to start a new thread on your build and I can certainly help with build advice along the way. cheers Paul
It would be interesting to know the differences between the original JH instructions and the reworked kit one from Dave Ennis, I know from a conversation with Jeff and his Dad that for them as traders to offer that kit in its original form was a non starter. Having said that I don't wish to put anyone off with a JH kit... its probably me having had to deal with old style kit offerings. Those of us here with long teeth will recall the battle of the ACME Ivatt tank engine I had a few years ago. cheers Yorkie
From memory the original Jim Harris kit had no formers for the firebox, the shape of which was completely up to you. You literally got the wrapper and a couple of casting for the upper front corners. My Harris rebuilt West Country was similar and I struggled to get the shape correct. A lot of Jim's later kits such as the 4mt, 3mt, castle and king that I have in my collection have a box construction making it far easier.
I remember you did a nice job on the West Country, also Jeff said that some of the etch shapes in the JH Britannia were inaccurate and decided a kit makeover was required.
