What couplings do you all prefer ?

I have rail / copper clad sleepers and roller gauges on order from Marcway, hopefully they will arrive soon, so I can test the motor etc for current draw.

    Paul

Nice one PaulO, now you,ve got it what are your plans? as for couplings, personally I like to see 3 links, its just I have trouble seeing them now, if you have 20 20 vision then 3 link deffo.

One thing to remember about Lima O Gauge Paul is that it is not 7mm fine scale, although it will run on Peco O Gauge track it won't like the points unless you try and alter the back to back. There is a chassis kit around somewhere to convert it and do away with the floating centre driving wheels and also to convert the chimney and other bits to something like what it should be. It is easy enough to put scale 3 link or screw link couplings on them to get rid of the monstrosities that Lima provide and there are often loads of wagons and coaches on the Ebay listings. Had one years ago and updated it and it didn't look too bad, but it did need a fair bit of weight adding to it to get it to pull anything more than a couple of wagons.

Aw nuts, forgot to order a back to back gauge.

The intension will probably be a small shunting plank (eventually), I've always fancied having a go at O, but never had the space / funds / time, still don't have any of these, but at £31 for the loco, I thought it was worth a punt.

For stock, I thought of trying Peco chassis kits and scratch building the wagon bodies.

Trackwork, I'm going to try and build my own.

    Hi Toto

Not put power on to it yet - how's that for restraint

    Pete

I'll give 3 link a try, but it may well depend on keep having to change glasses, so some form of auto coupler may be desirable.

    Ed

You're right about it being light - when I picked up the parcel I thought it was empty
Maybe a balacing act between adding weight on what the motor can actually cope with.

Hopefully I can alter the back to back to suit.

    Paul

Well DCC conversion looks easy enough, but I will put pickups in the tender as well.

A little inspiration for you Paul photo below.
The wheels in this loco are even the Lima ones it has had a new Chassis with a Sagarmi can motor
The spokes have had the infill cut out so that they are see through and new rods made so all wheels are connected.
Even the tender wheels are Lima with the infill between the spokes removed

One of the biggest improvements is to make the Boiler round as the flat section on the underside of the barrel is the worst feature of the Lima body everything else is just cosmetic detailing

It just go,s to show what can be done with these models, the only restriction is what you want from the model, I have seen some in the Gauge O Guild Gazette that look like fine scale kit built locos, the owners have even made them to scale size! the time and skill in doing the conversion compared to building a kit beggars belief, just because they could, brilliant!

mmmmmm....... looks good, my work is cut out me thinks.

Looking at the axels, they look like 1/8th, will need to measure them (battery is flat on the calipers), but if they are then the re-motoring option just got a lot easier - std OO stuff.

Found a battery for my "verynear" caliper, not 1/8" but 3mm axels, not sure if any one does 3mm dia axel gear boxes.

Well thanks to a tip off from Gary, 2 Dapol GWR (I know, I know.....) 7 plank wagons are on thier way to Dundee.

Now just need something to stand them on - missed the delivery today for the rail and sleepers, hopefully tomorrow we'll fair better at being in for the delivery.

More shinies arrived and the boss was in to get them

12 yards of bullhead rail 2 packs of copper clad sleeper strip and a pair of roller gauges.

Grabbed a piece of plywood, glued on some 5mm foam for underlay, then a templot printout of a length of O gauge fine scale track.

Just needs a strip of double sided tape down the center to tack the sleepers into place while I solder up a short piece of track to stand the 4F on.
