Male/female .... er sorry ... Mr Person & Mz/Mrs Person connectors fitted to case along with a couple of switches for lighting etc ... and MRRails steam chuffer unit installed (thats the volume control knob on the right) ... another set of connectors will be fitted to the wiring on the baseboard so I can lift it out and connect it up for repairs testing etc ... oh and labels to apply
Hi ianvolvo46. I notice you have a number of switches jutting out from the case. Did you place them where they are to avoid them getting damaged? Regards, James
Hi James they do look vulnerable don't they .. but as I'm the only one pla ... running the layout I'll just have to be careful
Wiring inside the case (Chuffer unit, 12v DC track feed, 16v AC for point motors and uncouplers and 12v DC for lighting) almost finished ... next the baseboard (points, magnetic uncouplers etc) the lamps for the lighting will be completed last as I'm sure to knock them.
Ian. I see you are another user of Wago connectors - or have you located another brand? I use these exclusively on Setforth Junction for all under baseboard connections. Given some of my wiring is based on trial and error it saves a degree of frustration with terminal blocks. Also noted the Chuffer unit. Never realised they existed before (aware you get stationary ones with countryside sounds) - just looked up MrRails and seen what they do - the auto one for OO might be worth a try. Which manufacturers unit are you using ( or have I missed that in earlier posts?) Cheers. David
Hi David yes the connectors are ideal for my layout .. they're stuck down with double-sided tape and the MRRails chuffer unit is fine though its not prototypical it gives a a sense of realism to the layout ... i once used the OO version inside a wagon and was very pleased with it ...erm not sure what you mean by manufactures unit but then agai, I'm not the brightest button ... Ian vt
Buttons? You should be so lucky - I'm still on velcro strips What I meant so say is whose unit are you using - but I've now done a bit of looking around on the Internet and it appears the only people who make these are Mr Rails?
MRRails are the only ones I know of .. as I've said before not prototypical but it does add another dimension to a layout ... and it stops a lot of spittle landing on the track when I make choo choo sounds myself Ian vt
most of the wiring done and CDU wired up ... just switches to fit and connect. it might look chaotic but I know where everything goes ... as a job on the side I've started on a small plug-in rolling road/diorama.. Its essential as all my locos are new so I can give them a running in session and I can do that using my twin track gamemaster controller ...
Progress so far ... all jack plugs work, and the board can be lifted out and plugged in directly for repairs etc and has 4 fixed legs to support it ... the point switches/motors work (I intend to have individual street lights wired to the goods/station and coal sidings to tell me when they are live and thus which way the points are thrown) the chuffer unit works (though only in one direction but no problem as i think I have a solution) I can now start on the fun scenic stuff before installing the layout lighting (the wiring is already complete below the baseboard) ... I have moved the uncoupler press switches to the board near the point levers.
First layer of ground cover down and signal box base prepared using various styles of cobbles etc . retaining wall next .... I'll blend it all in after buildings planted ... having fun ....
Tunnel portals positioned provisionally relative to the goods shed PN936 and getting an idea on how the retaining walls PN144will sit. gonna be tight but hey a nick here a snip there and a vino everywhere ... sorted ... (I cut the centres out of the tunnel portals PN147 as they were originally double track and will also be shortening the goods shed to just under half length) ... a sober thought ... ? ... as I'm running an auto-coach I could move the goods shed across to the right and put the station on the left at the exit of the tunnel ...
