Hi Ed a brave man installing the overhead but it will really look nice as you progress around the layout. Not going to volunteer to clean the track once it's all in though have seen it all go wrong at a show here when someone's sleeve caught in the overhead whilst cleaning with a track rubber and instantly pulled down several feet of superb work
Funny you should say that Chris, just had a slight mishap trying to get another piece of fence in behind the masts I'll know in the morning when the glue dries if I've saved a mast, or have to replace it. Ed
I caught the mast with the back of my hand while drilling holes for the fence behind it Bit of wire to hold the cantilever arm in place and a dash of glue. Cut the wire off this morning and ....... fixed .. and the moral of this story is, do things in the right order and don't rush ahead Ed
Ouch, with a good recovery. I would not liked to have heard what lovely, colourful language was coming from your garage when this happened ! Good to see it back together again. Cheers, Gary.
Thanks guys. I was actually quite subdued Gary, might not of been if I'd paid £8 per mast which is what the new Peco stuff costs With a view to not making the same mistake again, I'm trying to sort out the right type of station footbridge prior to putting any more Catenary up. Ed
Sounds good Ed. Fiddly stuff though. It will be well worth it when all the catenary stuff is in place. Looking forward to seeing it. Well done Sir Toto
Could or would the Dapol/Airfix station footbridge kit do the job ? Then there is the Hornby footbridge (R076), the curved Skaledale (Hornby) footbridge (R8641) and also the wooden laser cut Ancorton Footbridge kit (OOST5). I may have missed one or two kits/models ! Cheers, Gary.
Just a few Gary Ratio have two offerings, then there's Superquick, Metcalfe and the Gaugemaster Fordhampton Footbridge Plastic Kit which I believe is based on an old Hornby kit and is now made by Faller. And of course Bachmann ..... I have to consider height due to OHLE and the period, but I've just won (I was the only person that bid) a Hornby modern footbridge R.071, now out of production. Looks pretty good match for the footbridge that went in at Cheshunt when the line was electrified, replacing the old Victorian lattice work GER type structure. I've a picture in a book about the West Anglian Main Line which I can't reproduce due to copyright, but I found a similar picture of the same bridge on the web. http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/%7Eowend/I/R/stnpages/cheshunt2.jpg Ed
Another possibility if the Hornby one pans out is the Scalescene kit, as you could modify it to suit the height and span you require. http://scalescenes.com/product/r007-footbridge/ Paul
Saw a couple of those on eBay Ian but from what I remember they're a bit chunky, although the right design for the period. Bearing in mind their age, not really sure how well the brittle plastic would stand up to being hacked about. Ed
Footbridge turned up yesterday (yes, Sunday) Right sort of style and it will clear the Catenary. (put it down to a lucky guess) Ed
Nice foot bridge Ed. Just like in 12":1' world, the catenary looks the part slung under the bridge. You just need the shields that attach to the underside of the walkway to complete it. Cheers, Gary.
