With me have no space to build a layout my next best thing was build a layout in a wrapping paper box. I know it might not sound much given the baseboard will be 700 x200mm.
My locomotives of choice will be Ruston 48s, ideal for something like this. So now is the hard bit finding information and pictures of industrial railways and companies that would have used these locos.
It does not need to be a full layout even if it's part of an industry which I can copy for my layout and of course being able to operate and run locos and maybe some stock.

More progress on my search where Ruston 48DS 417892 Jim was working. It was sold to Crossley scrap metal merchants Shipley in 1975 and was there until 1982.
So now I can concentrate my build around Crossley scrap metal merchants and look at pictures so I can build a layout that depicts this area.

I remember Crossley's well from my youth in Bradford.

They were still there just before we moved from Wakefield in 2019 as I drove past on the way to Keighley albeit all I could see from the road while driving was piles of scrap and some cranes
