I started the build of this layout several years ago after I lost enthusiasm for the O.16.5 narrow gauge layout that I built the boards for, the track was laid, wired and the wire in tube control for the points fitted. It uses code 75 peco track and electrofrog points, and is wired for DC control with isolating sections, though I have found a problem with the section isolation on one length but I know what is wrong and it won,t take long to sort out. Anyway here are a few pics for you.[IMG]

Some of the cork underlay has started to lift in places, I will need to sort that out before going much further.
I have started on making a platform in card, you can just about see it under all the weights on top of it!

Thats it so far, more to come later. Oh if anyone has any ideas for a name for it suggestions are very welcome!

    Cheers, Pete.

A name. :scratchchin: what theme will it have and the general period.

It looks quite a long layout .... What's the length ?

Hi Toto, time period, late 1950s, early-mid 1960s, steam/green diesels. Area, based (very) roughly on the Wirksworth to Duffield (Ecc:bleep6:urne Valley preserved line), Midland branch just west of Derby. It is 90"x 24" less fiddle, the fiddle yard will be approx 36" long, initially I was going to make it a traverser but the running lines are quite close to the front so I reckon I will be going with cassettes with the front of the fiddle boxed off with shelving brackets to store the cassettes. To be honest, I am building it to sell on to raise more funds for my O gauge modelling, so hopefully it won,t be a long build, it would be nice to keep but I just don,t have the space.
I have sorted the isolating section that was giving me problems, just took my dremel to the rail, and I have re-stuck the cork down in most of the places it was lifting, so ready to paint and ballast the track, then the fun bit doing the scenics.

    Cheers, Pete.

Don,t know why its bleeped Ecclesbourne???

    Hi Pete,

The bleeper can be a bit sensitive. A pain at times but rather have it than not. Cuts down the moderating potential. :avatar:

Apologies for it popping up uneccecerily.

Still thinking of the name yet. It depends if you want a name linked to the area or more of a purpose lead name.

With it being a preserved line and I'm assuming mostly passenger it will have a station or a " halt " so maybe that could be worked in. Again, not knowing the area myself, is it rural or inner city. That may determine a " hard " or " soft " name.

Just my thought process at the moment. The more you can tell, the better the ideas will come.

It's one of my favourite bits ....... Getting a name.

That was my thought Gary, perfectly reasonable ;). Toto, the layout is based roughly on the line, it was the inspiration only, I don,t want to do it as a preserved line as I don,t think there would be enough operational interest in the small space available, thats why its got a goods shed and provender store, I,m also building a coal yard as I have the coal bins and weighbridge kit in stock, I started building the station building then Hornby brought out their Scaledale station to an almost identical design :whatever:, I think I will finish mine as I already have it plus the bits and bobs to make it more realistic.

    Cheers, Pete.

If your going to sell it Pete, you could just sell it as a layout called 'No Name' and whoever buys it can call it whatever they like.

Lets them put their stamp on what they've bought.

    Just a thought.

Take it you've already sold all the rolling stock.

Hi Ed, good idea , thanks. I still have some rolling stock left that I will get round to selling but for the moment I am using to play-er-test the track etc. As an aside, has anyone tried sticking brick paper to plasticard? only I am thinking overlaying the embossed brick on my bridge and station building with scalescenes paper to keep the overall standard the same and wondered if pritt stick would work or a spray adhesive I have seen used on another download site.
    Cheers, Pete.

I have used PVA for sticking paper to plasticard.

You can also rough the surface of the plasticard up with some sand paper for better grip/adhesion.

    Cheers, Gary.

    G`day Pete,

Can`t help you with the name but the suggestion of leaving it nameless would probably make it easier to sell. Somebody could put their own stamp on it and job done.....Bingo!!!....instant layout for some poor sod.!!!

I bet by the time you`ve built it you will change your mind about selling it....:scratchchin:...:avatar::avatar::avatar:

Thanks Gary, I will sperriment on some spare bits .

You are probably right Gormo, I had a little play around after putting it back up and really enjoyed it :avatar: but, I don,t have the room or finances to have lots of layouts much as I would like to, so it will eventually have to go, but I am going to enjoy the journey.

    Cheers, Pete.

Hi Gary, no I still have it, I,ve done a little work on it, some track painting, built the platform, but I haven,t touched it for a couple of weeks, I have been messing with my scratch built shunter, plus a bit of work on my stationary engine, getting it ready for the new rally season.

    Cheers, Pete.

Pete, you could try using the ready mixed wallpaper "Border adhesive", probably find it in the 'pound shops'. Not tried using it to stick paper to plasticard, but it certainly sticks paper to hardboard, ply etc. and a tub is cheap enough.

Hi chaps, Gary, our first outing is early May with our clubs first rally, we have one in September also, they are low key affairs with free entry for visitors.

Keith, I have decided to go with painting the brickwork, putting brickpaper on the station building would be a PITA, thanks for the suggestion though, I will try it on a future build .

Gormo, definitely worth trying, I have a project in mind ;).

    Cheers, Pete.

As it has been an age since doing anything on "Lazarus", and I really need to get it moved on as I need the space for some of my other projects I decided to make a fresh start, the plan is to ballast first then paint the rails, fix down the platform and then crack on with the scenery. Anyway, some will remember me gluing in the coal on my shunter with Kleer floor polish, anyroad, while ferreting about in my shed I came across a different type of floor polish called Seel, it purports to do the same job as Kleer and I have a lot more of it I thought I would try it out on the ballast, it looks like diluted pva and is the same colour, as an experiment I've used it on a small board I've got for trying locos on.

I must say it went on really well, it flowed perfectly into the ballast, and according to the instuctions it should dry in 2/3 hours, I hope it drys without turning the ballast green like pva doe's.

    Cheer's, Pete.

Well the 2/3 hour drying time is wrong, still I will check again in the morning. I have tidied up the track colour paint around the point tie bars, still need to mask them up before ballast and glue but I have stuck down the platform then noticed it crossed a board joint , I lifted it and cut it to suit and re fixed it, not too pretty but I will do some thing with it later. I have ballasted the track in front of the platform and the run round, hopefully I will glue it down tomorrow. A photo of the painted track, not very good, the lights in the wrong place.

I will take some more pics tomorrow.

    Cheer's, Pete.

Sounds like you'll be waiting 24 hours for the Seel floor polish to dry ! Looking forward to seeing he results of the polish and also looking forward to more pics.

    Cheers, Gary.
