Looks great The addition of the name down the chimney just makes it all pop out of the scene. Nice work keep it up.
Thanks again for all the kind comments http://www.click So today little project was to make the coal office that will serve the coal drops and sit at the top of the hill.So with some bits of odd plasticard and some recycled hollow core plastic signage, this is the result. Wires are for a single led which will just glow. Plastic weight bridge is not the correct item, it just to give an idea of what it will look like. I need to source one from somewhere. Signs were done on the computer and the Office this way sign was from a picture off the internetKim
Nice scratch build mate, I have done a couple myself, one is a larger scale build of a project from Hornby mag a couple of years ago, the other is of the coal office at Aysgarth in North Yorkshire, I will photograph them and post them up, the Aysgarth one may be of interest as I used a different method from the norm. Pete.
Great scratch building there Kimbo The chimney just looks RIGHT looking forward to seeing more Gormo watch out if gary drops in and starts measuring up your chair legs, now you will know why Cheers Matt
Layout update. There's a slim chance that I might show this layout in June, so the last few weeks have been spent sorting out how best to display it. My last oo gauge layout had a canopy with lighting on dimmer switch's, which were fixed to the garage wall and the layout slid under it, it worked very well but I used 60w daylight bulbs and this caused alot of heat, so I've decided to use LED's fixed to a removable frame. A friend made up three steel "L" shaped brackets which were then fixed to the three main supports at the rear with wing-nuts and washers, then two long ply sandwiched battens where made for the front, these are 2440 x 150 x 25mm (6mm ply) These are then fitted to brackets with concealed bolts and wing nuts. To finish off the sides I made two side sections in ply 150 x 500, this gives a nice frame work to the layout with a viewing "window" of 500mm This shows the centre support with the bolts going through the bracket. I've also added a strip of wood at 45 degrees to the fascia to accommodate the LED strips. I plan to use three strips, Bright white and warm white on dimmer switch's and a remote controlled colour strip to have a play with different colours These following pictures where taken at night with the room lights off, so only the LED lighting on.First up... 5m of Cool Bright white LED's first. 5m of Warm white only warm white and bright white together warm white, bright white and Blue........ warm white bright white and red............. warm white, bright white and green............ All of the lighting was set at full brightness as the dimmers have not arrived, i know its difficult to say from pictures but which do you think looks the best so far? Next job will be some walling at the back of the layout...............
Hi Kimbo, The second and third last both look good to me. Also, a very neat presentation in general. It's amazing the difference a freshly presented layout can make. I hope the exhibition comes off. A few photo's of your layout in full battle dress at the show would be great. I'll keep my eye open for an update nearer the time. If you are interested in a few Platform 1 leaflets etc, have a word with Gary. There is a new design which will be coming out very soon. I will be sending them over to Gary at some point. Keep us updated with some more photo's when your dimmers arrive. Cheers and thanks for posting Toto
Thanks Toto,Yes please send me some details or let me know when Gary has them. I was going to ask if it would be ok to put the Platform 1 Totem on the display as well.Kim
Hi Kim, Feel free. I was looking at getting totem stickers made up but you need to buy thousands in order to get the price down to a reasonable figure. I'll be looking into it again and will keep you posted. Cheers Toto
Great work Kim with the valance and lighting The ww/bw looks best to me followed by the one with a bit of red but it's hard to gauge from photos at least you have the options to play with, you can set the mood if you like, dark and dreary winters night or a bright summers day to an afternoon sun set! http://www.click
That looks really good Kimbo ! The ww/bw for me as well but the beuty of your system is you can adjust it to compliment the lighting at the exhibition so you get the best result Nice one Cheers Matt
Thanks Chris, Toto and Matt for the feed back. Managed to finish the walling at the back and right hand side of the layout today. I then found a 2.4m strip of coloured LED's from a lighting project I did in the house a few months back, so I fixed them up at the engine shed end of the layout and had a play as you will see in the video clip below. There are no other lights on in the room , just the strip of coloured LED's which have a remote control set to a fade in/out program. If you watch the B4 with the Southern 91 logo plus the red buffer beams on all of the loco's strange things happen Kim
Ww/Bw for me too, whoa the lighting effects in the video are proper weird, the buffer beams seemed to turn black? Pete.
Now my young lad would give you the theory etc behind the effects (studying for his phd in physics), and would probably be worse than getting his old man to explain about computers, so I'll save everyone the ear ache, and say those lights are impressive, can you vary them from side to side as well as colour balance ? Paul
Thanks Pete, yes so far I think the two different whites together look good. I'm still waiting for the dimmers to arrive and then have another go/play. Thanks Paul. When the other colour strip is installed at the other end they will both work together. Looking forward to having all three sets working together and playing around with the different colours and levels of light...more to come as soon as supplies get delivered. This long weekend should see the sides and back drop finished off. Kim
Made a start on the scratch built warehouse today. I've set it up and populated the scene to see what it might look like when finished. What needs changing or adding ? Kim
