Wow, VEA's are not very popular (tongue firmly in cheek)! Maybe you'll prefer these! Old Bachmann VAA repainted and weathered: Parkside 16t slope sided mineral wagon: Matt
Nice work. I find that any model coming from your hands is much liked by myself. Your weathering skills are right up there. Carry on good sir ! Cheers, Gary.
Here's another old repainted and weathered Bachmann VAA (yes it is separate model!). This time I've really faded the red to an almost pink shade. Matt
Thanks once again Gary. The slope sided mineral wagon I posted earlier, well I wasn't quite happy with it. The side doors and upper bodywork bothered me so today I repainted it. Only a subtle difference, but worth it in my eyes as it all blends together more convincingly. I'm currently painting a very old Cambrian Turbot kit and repainting a Bachmann OBA. Matt
Another one done....actually this has been repainted 3 or 4 times now. Based on this photo: https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brmineralweld/h294dbb33 And my version from the same-ish angle: Matt
I've been building a Cambrian Turbot kit. For such an old kit, it scrubs up well with careful assembly and painting. Its been built as intended apart from replacement buffers, pipes and lamp irons. Painting didn't go to plan, my first attempt was far too pale (both colours), then I attempted some rusting effects which looked awful. I then resprayed both colours freehand to get to the finish you now see. I've actually done a bit more to weather the bogies since these photos. Matt
Hello all, I've posted this previously (start of the year) and although I was reasonably pleased with the rusted appearance, it was just a bit boring. I tried various things to improve it, but none of them really worked, or if they did, I still wasn't happy. In the end, I stumbled across a photo online which showed a Grampus patch painted in a very random fashion and decided to copy it. I had to replace most of the markings I applied first time, so used some Railtec bits this time. I also redid the underframe weathering while I was at it. My next two longer term projects will be... Parkside Pipe wagon into an ODA: Parkside 21t Hopper into a Tope: The ODA has already got off to a bad start because the solebar is snapped in half. Thanks for looking! Matt
I trust that the solebar can be glued back together ?? If not, possibly a length of Evergreen or Plastruct H beam or I beam will do the job. Once again, nice work on the Grampus ! Cheers Gary.
Here's the first of the two builds - the ODA is almost done. I had to replace the solebars, as suggested by @Gary with some Evergreen Channel. I've wanted to do one of these for ages! Matt
Old Airfix 16t mineral wagon repainted. This was picked up cheaply, pre-built and damaged from eBay and repaired.
Hi all, Some of you may remember this - Airfix/Dapol brake van that I actually built back in 2018! It's been waiting patiently while I put off replacing the handrails, which I've finally done - only took 4 years! It's almost finished now, I just need to complete the weathering. Matt
That looks superb Matt. Will look forward to see it painted up and decals applied. Love your work ! Cheers, Gary.
Now completed (don't worry Andy, you've missed nothing!). Despite its age I think it stands up well next to more modern RTR offerings. I will make another, after all I've got a stash of these kits! Matt
