This building represents a new warehouse built by the Royal Mail to meet the needs of the increasing postal traffic through this dock in the early 1960s. Due to a lack of space in this old dock the architects opted for a roof top loading and unloading platform as adopted in the Bristol docks (Ref 5.1), hence the personel and roller shutter doors at roof level. Safety of the dockers and the RM employees was not an issue then, so no rails or walls, it was your fault if you fell off the building!

Built with Arkitex (00) it has many custom parts which were created for this warehouse in my 3D printing Arkitex Project (Ref 5.2) including :-
    • Brick faced panels sympathetic with the old warehouses
    • Thickened floors suited to a warehouse
    • Taller connector beams, ground and first floor
    • Roller shutter doors
    • Personel doors
    • Baseplate
    • Roof panels
    • Roof edging
Come to think of it, only most beams, all connecting blocks, internal floors, corners and window panels are original Arkitex parts.

The pictures show the building ready for bedding in to the dockside.
