This is exclusively a NER house Paul, you don't think I would blacken it with nasty Highland Railway stuff do you. Mossy
Mr Dundee covered the build of the K1 cattle but had a significant battle with upside-down syndrome and my mis-drawn brake gear. My build went very smoothly, but the re-drawn brakes still weren't right and needed tweeking but a few hours later all fitted neatly. two brakes same side: Opposite side opposite wheel with a single righthand brake lever: Obviously all just posed, and in need of a clean up then gluing into place, my version with have opposite wheel opposite side brakes with both a righthand and lefthand brake levers. The P6 Hooper has made less progress, the floor had warped sufficiently and didn't have location pips for the compensation units, so they need redrawing, so far all that has been done is to fit the wire work, 2 horse loops and 4 hand rails. I must confess I initaiily wondered what the blue loop was for at the top of the lever guard until the penny dropped and I realised that it was blue tack DOH!!
Andy, I could suggest I was merely testing the observational capabilities of members of the forum but thank &^%$87 I didn't glue anything up last night . Thanks for pointing out the blindingly obvious now corrected but still not glued. Mossy PS I think we need a term to cover both upsidedownitis and wrong way around itis that can be used by members of the forum. Any ideas?
I decided it was time to commit the brakes to the super glue, so stripped everything down for a final clean up and reassembled it. Just about to start gluing it and realised I'd done it again so a quick switch of brakes and the K1 is ready for the paint shop a la Rob. Right brake lever left brake block: Left brake lever left brake And yes just spotted the unglued spring Mossy
Told you I feel your pain. As for a term how about an "inverted murphy" You not fittimg buffers on this one Looking good tho. I'd also fit the bars on the for a better term "windows" as these are easier to fit then paint than later on. Paul
Your brake vans and D1/2's have had their first coat of primer. They will probably need a second coat to cover all the orange resin. Photos once I am happy with them.
Phew… and I thought I was being picky.. However, I will say, it probably comes with Working the full size stuff. Tend to look at this kind of stuff in more detail.. Glad it’s now sorted. So was it just wrong way round??
Erm.. that bottom shot with the spring issue.. the brake still won’t apply when you pull the lever down.. your turning the shaft anti clock, so to apply the brake the pushing bar needs to be above the shaft, not below it. Sorry!! I’ll get me sun hat.
Paul, Rob prefers the buffers separate for painting, as for the window bars I completely forgot about them. I'm sure my brain is shutting down now I'm a retired gentleman. Andy strike one I hate people who are right . The brake levers and horse loops need reversing, I have plenty of spares so will put my surgical mask on later. Rob, I thought you were going to paint the wagons as and when you had built your copies there genuinely no rush for them? Mossy
I was/am but I have other stuff to paint at the minute so while the air brush was in motion so to speak, I decided to get them primed. There will be a hiatus while I sort out appropriate body colours.
Andy Hopefully resolved, it just needs your nod of approval and a couple of small holes filling. If this was open heart surgery, stuff the patient, the surgeon needed life support!
I managed to get a bit more primer on your models today to the point where I am happy with the undercoat. I still need to do the bolsters again as I had the paint too wet when I did those and they all stuck to the newspaper that I had them resting on. I have cleaned of the paper rsidue and will do them again tomorrow. The demarcation between the black and red oxide primers is untidy at this stage as it was freehand spraying without any masking. I have also primed the interiors as there was some light bleed through. I don't know whether it was the different primers, or the fact that there is so much more to the brake vans. in any event, despite their more complex shape, they seemed much easier to get paint coverage than the bolster wagons.
Wow, I wasn't expecting them to look like that Rob. Thank you. On the left hand V1/2 has the top left hand lamp iron broken? Even a half blind bat like me can read NER 1A on the bolster axle boxes. Mossy
There should be plenty of spares in the two V1/2 boxes of yours if you feel like replacing it, each wagon needs 10 lamp irons.
