2 new projects for the new year ... Railbus (awaiting running chassis)Tank loads on Triang well wagon Ian vt Attached files
Ian - for the railbus I built over 20 years ago, I used a pair of MJT wagon W irons for the chassis. My appologies for the blurry shots The motor was mounted on to angle piece of brass, a piece of 40 thou brass being used as the chassis. The W irons being soldered to the brass plate as well. A 1.5 mm worm and 2 mm worm wheel were used. The other W iron used the compensation feature to help with pick ups. Wiper pickups were used on all wheels. This ran fairly reliably, especially considering they are P4 wheel sets and not very forgiving at all. Paul
Cheers for that Paul looks a proper job ... although I've ordered a 142 chassis from fleabay ... bittern it might have been in your thread I saw it mentioned. I'll need some smaller replacement bogies for the well wagon any ideas .... Ian vt
Cheers Chris quite cheap and come in packs of 2 nice mouldings and very simple to build. I've also got a Spitfire and Hurrican to make loads so I can interchange them as I only have 3 wagons. Ian vt
Ian, check your 142 bogie. You will need the ones without traction tyres. If you can get hold of a dummy one as well it will help for the other end. Once built the chassis will not go through small radius points but is fine on medium radius. Will post some pics later showing the bogies for the ones I'm doing at the moment to give you some ideas. You will also have to cut a rather large hole in the floor for the motor to go through.
I recall reading a topic on this on YMRC. The modeller there used a Lima motor from a German shunter and I have bought the same model from fleabay for $9.00 Au. The chassis and motor will be pulled out and placed under the railbus. The wheel base is a tad too short, but hey, I can shorten the Dapol undercarriage etc without it looking out of place. Cheers, Gary.
G'day, I did this conversion twenty odd years ago and used a chassis from an Airfix slot car as I wished to preserve the daylight between the body and chassis. I had to make a gearbox to reduce the speed and that was where I came unstuck. The motor was basically the same as the 1005 motors used in the mdel trains but ran at higher speeds for slot car racing. I researched the motor in my magazines and found what I thought was the speed of the motor and worked out the reduction needed and built the gearbox accordingly. It worked fine except that the speed was dead slow. I put it to one side and about a year later found an article that gave all the data on available motors and it turned out that I had acquired a later one that ran at a slower speed. With the internet today I might not have made that mistake. I still have the model somewhere and if I come across it I'll take some photos and post them for comparison.
Here is chassis for one of the Dapol railcars that I'm putting together at the moment. It still needs painting and tidying up but it runs as sweet as a nut. The big hole in the floor Hope this gives you some ideas Ian
