Had a day out today (after a few days not being able to do much) we had lunch beside the Newcastle Port on the Hunter River. There were lots of ships around the port today and lots of wagons waiting for there next run up the Valley to return with more of Australia's export commodities. For one of Australia's busiest Ports the rail side was very quite today However I scored with the SSR Tenth Aniversary Livery twins stabled at a head of a train of SSR wheat hoppers. I have models of these two Locos and a local manufacture has just announced that they are producing the hoppers so I will be getting some to run an accurate train behind the Twins Just as I was taking some photos of SSR101 & 102 a Glencore owned Loco rolled in with 8coal hoppers for servicing. First photo SSR twins with the Glencore train arriving. Attached files
Cripes (Ausie speak) each of those drongos is bigger than my whole layout ... very impressive though ... I bet they sound brilliant what engines do they have? Ian

Was speaking to a Newcastle Harbour pilot last week and he said they bring in the 250/350 metre long ships, turn them 180 degrees and for at least one wharf backs them 2km up stream to the berth. Pales my use of a box trailer into the driveway. Andrew
chiefnerd wrote: Yes some of the Ships are massive the one we saw this week coming in was a mino and spun round with lots of space but we have seen some super big ones Re the box trailer backing Some trailers are a night mare my car trailer back really well but Shelley's dads small box trailer is a pain to backup as has such a short draw bar it's like it's got a mind of its own.
