Ok, So after all these other 3D postings i've done in the last fortnight, its come to the point where I really need a new layout.

For a number of years (must be 15?) I have planned to create "Longnor" a station on the proposed extension of the Leek & Manifold, the unbuilt line between Humle End and Buxton in 0-16.5

The layout board is in the planning stage, so I will bring this to you as it progresses, but with most items having been 3D drawn and printed, I can build a virtual layout.

It may be a very slow thread over a number of weeks (read years!) so here are a few photos of the stock.

Slaters Loco , Kevin trims "Dorset Kits" Coaches and Converter wagon by a company who's name I forget.

Here is the first draw up of the planned layout - Tunnel to the right, embankment and trees to the left to fiddle yards either side. possible a level crossing (maybe two - one either side of the station as per the proposed original site)

it may end up being slightly curved yet, not sure which way, so the front is arched and then the fiddle yards turn the other way to bring it back straight.

Everything was modeled on the Barsi Railway in India Toto and buildings were supplied by a company who build tin tabernacle chapels, the Portable Building Company. Such a shame it all closed down in 1934, it would have been a damn gold mine tourist magnet had it survived today.

Just as a matter of interest Andy did you say you had the plans for the Manifold's proposed Hartington Longnor extension?

Sorry, did I not upload these ? Not all have been printed yet (due to not having the finances) but all complete.

Hulme End station (Still survives to this day), Waiting shelter (think all now sadly gone), Hulme End water tower (went in the 1930's) and the Hulme End Engine shed. (survived until around 2003 when it was removed to build a similar structure in its place to become a café.. - worth note is the arches inside the engine shed.

Only what is shown in Bob Grattons big book. No, I have no idea if it really was to be a dual gauge in to Buxton. :giggle::scratchchin:

Beautiful models Andy. They are so elegant. One of the early narrow gauge/light railway manuals has a fair bit of information on the Leek and Manifold. I must try and track it down on the Internet Archive (Wayback Machine).

No, I only have the one loco - the second is a bastardised cheap US loco which is being "anglisized" - tender looks more GWR and altered the cab. flat front buffer instead of a cow thingy, but left the headlight (as that's still looking L&M style.) then a repaint. I may 3D design some bits for it to replace the scratch built ones. it looks so much more real and you can incorporate the rivet heads etc.

Must get around to the other coach. And the second hand box van to repair. Also have some large US hopper wagons to make look English.

Just a bit more progress on the planning . ….. No idea if this will ever get built ?

    Layout 2.jpg

So, now placed the tunnel mouth, station, platform and water tower. I opted for a road bridge from the Onecote\Hartington end and a single track level crossing on the Buxton end (which gives you some orientation now - The far end is towards Hulme End and the nearest end to Buxton)

Its based on a real field between the two roads as they run in to Longnor. behind is south, so were facing the village (so it will be hills for a background)

    Layout 3.jpg

As seen from the other side.... Please excuse the track, ive had to use a G scale templet for someones 3d panels, but the STL wont let me get rid of the spare sleeper at the side.... I can live with it for a planning stage build.

There will be a yard access from the road to the right. There is the loop and some more sidings to draw in as well as some hills and the river (and rail/river bridge to draw) - It may also not be dead straight come the buold, but shows what I can do\fit in at this stage for planning.

Well... someone had decided he wants me to take his OO shed layout in to the garden. That may come first... I stand more chance of getting the scenery finished on Oakamoor!

    Hey ho...

Now, a bit of carefull planning of clearances and that outdoor OO could double as a further extension to the L&MVR empire

I have Peter Kazer's book on Narrow gauge modelling - unfortunately Narrow gauge railways only appear to exist in Wales :whatever:, but it does have some good drawings of rolling stock for those wishing to go down the Welsh route.

Oh no.. there was at least the L&M and the Ashover in Derbyshire! Why does the world seem to think narrow gauge orientated around Wales?

The OO extension will be at my Dads so that’s a no go. But I know what you mean..:scratchchin: and I also need to sort the L&M loco as being outside frame is there is very little sideways play so it struggles round bends, even points! :faint:

Andy, is it a 6 coupled loco, if so you could try a flangeless center wheel.

2-6-4T. I’m not sure I could swap the wheel sets after all these years to a flangeless... but it’s a fine idea that may solve an issue. (The motion is fixed in situe.)

It may also be I’ve put the motor and gearbox on to the wrong axle- it was very much here is the slaters kit - how you do pickups and power it is left to you kind of kit... and it was my first ever real loco kit and a bit of a learning curve. I should have listened more to others, but then there also wasn’t the internet when I was a 20 something building it. I bet I’ve had it 18 years. The guy who last fettled it to get it to run smooths been dead 10 years sadly.
