    Looks great Bob
Perfect for any NSWGR o scale layout,
Now you need a couple more points and a back platform road for it to start from :scratchchin:.

Being able to travel for the first time in years I made it across to Perth.
First stop was Nev's US O gauge layout.
    P1020236 s.JPG

Then it was off to the exhibition for two days. Not much in the way of O gauge but lots of S scale and large scale to be seen

    P1020290 s.JPG

Then the last day had me visiting Ralph to see his new outdoor/indoor O gauge British layout. Being LMS based just added to the pleasure.

Both Ralph and Nev were excellent hosts making my visit very special.

    cheers

A visit to another Ralph with an outdoor layout.

So if you have the skill and patience, this is what jam tins, wire from the hardware store and 6'x4' sheets of brass can be turned into.

Not easy to get brass sheet these days, what with the price of copper being so high. I'm also pretty rubbish when it comes to soldering, but I suppose much the same can be also achieved with various materials such as thick card or plastic sheet and various tubes and pipe odds and ends.

I doubt whether brass sheet was ever the price of cardboard Martin. It is readily available if you have the necessary. A casual glance would suggest it is 4 or 5 times the price of styrene. However I am not a fan of metalwork and only use it where I think appropriate.
Tinplate is still probably the cheapest metal to work in. If it was good enough for J.S. Beeson it is good enough for me :>)

Here a couple more photos from my visit to Ralph Holden's.

What can I say, just superb work from day one.

Neville is proudest of the operation of the layout Kim.
It is DC but with a wiring system to prevent operator errors.
They have a regular Friday three man session running to computer printed switching schedules.
Runs like a swiss watch, Nev regears locos, replaces wheels etc to bring all stock up to his required standard. Although he models American he chose Peco track and Marcway points because they were the best available. A case of not allowing prototype fidelity to get in the way of reliable operation.
    cheers

For those of you not familiar with North American O gauge modelling there does exist a few stalwarts who model it in '2-rail' - their term for what others would call 'scale'.
The Model Railroad club of Toronto have had to re-build their huge layout after a forced move. The progress they have made is very impressive.
Plenty of videos on Youtube and on their Facebook page.
if you use the term 'O gauge 2-rail' in a search engine you will find a lot of what we call scale modelling.

A friend of mine in the states cannot afford the cost of American 2-rail so has to rely on mainly Lionel etc 3-rail which is regularly to be found in car boot sales etc.
He thinks outside the square and removed the centre rail and powered his models with BPRC.

    He started with this
    3rd rail removed b.JPG

    and soon moved to this

    5850_262015_350000000.jpg

Building his own points to accommodate the 3-rail wheels he was using and using regular code 148 flextrack.

Jack Ray used coarse scale outdoors and his layout always looked good. It is the unnatural centre rail that spoils layouts for me. Outside third, stud or BPRC (best option) are far better if one has uninsulated wheeled stock.

    cheers

The five wagons I got in Adelaide are now ready for use. They will give the 4F's a bit more to pull.
