Fantastic video and commentary Gary. Things are really moving on. I'll look forward to seeing how it is received at the exhibition.

PS ...... what is the exact date of the show? If I have enough time for the post, I can send through an offering for a competition prize. Let me know.

    Cheers

Couple more wagons on the go tonight...

LMS Beer Van and an LMS 12t open goods wagon.

Have another cattle van to do and finish off the LMS brake van, the one with all the brass etchings... :whatever:

The laser cut kits are on there way to me so hopefully I will receive them sooner than later. With an exhibition on this weekend, I will loose modelling time and I have considered a few days off work to help get a few bits and pieces completed.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Busy busy Gary
Your not going to need any extra goods stock at this rate.
Whilst getting my stock box out for this weekend RVR Exhibition, I Just found my stock box with the Blood & Custard BR MK1’s I’ll have a look to see if one of these will accept a Bachmann coupler just one BSK would do as a passenger service behind a Jinty
Do you have any spec’s on the height your couplers are set at.above the rail.?

I can leave my Pannier with 3 link for the weekend and use TLs on the Jintys'.

Maybe in the long run, I may buy one of those Dapol auto-coach. It would be perfect behind the Pannier !

    Cheers, Gary.

Ok I’ll still have a look at the coach to see if it’s an easy fit as I think may need the pushing ability with the curves and the coach over hang may be a case of on bogie mounting the for Hook to keep it to the curve centre line.
We have just discovered that the Dapol Auto coaches struggle with the tight curves
Brian who you and I visited, just north of me has a Dapol Auto coach and Dapol Pannier and it won’t get round the peco set track with the link couplers he is now looking at some sort of alternative. Part of the problem is the overhang from the bogie centre plus the very long buffers on the coach, buffer locking is a problem due to this.

He could try fitting a wire across the buffers of the coach like this illustration. This will avoid the buffer-lock. He may need to add an extra link in the coupling chain though.

Looking at the coupling system you have there Hartleymartin, I may have to adopt that ! It looks simple enough to knock up.

Do you have any drawings of how this goes together ?? I'd be very much interested.

I have noticed that with my tighter curve, the 3 link doesn't work that well due to buffer lock and I may have to add another link of chain to the existing 3 link fitted wagons.

    Cheers, Gary.

Congrats on being POTW Gary  the new layout is coming along nicely :tophat:... sorry I only just found your video of it to comment. It all looks great but beware you don't get overtaken with the addictive wagon bug or you'll end up like me with far too much rolling stock and not enough space to run it all.:avatar:

It is a Sprat and Winkle coupling, though this is a home-made job. You can get them as brass etches.

As hartleymartin explained, it is a home made Spratt and Winkle coupling, the etched version I'm using on my freight stock.
They're a very reliable method of coupling as long as they are set up well using a jig to get them all the same height. They can be a bit of a fiddle to assemble and fit but once you've done two or three then they get easier. Plus they work with permanent magnets.

    Pete.

    P.S, congrats on POTW mate!!

Thanks for the info on the Spratt & Winkle couplings. I may just look into them after the exhibition.

So, I have started putting a few building kits together this weekend and started painting the bricks on the signal box...

Above : The L&CR/LMS small signal box and the Coal Merchant office. The coal staithes are complete as well, except for paint.

Below : Painting has begun, which is quite tedious...

Once the Coal Merchant office is painted, I'll use the chalk dust method I used on my HO scale Produce Warehouse model for the mortar.

Not much more to show you although I have reordered the proper scale station building... ;);)

    Cheers, Gary.

    More painting tonight...

A selection of browns, skin tones and red/browns were used to pick out the bricks. This was a mix of Tamiya and Citadel paints. I used Hobby Colour 'Wine Red' with a drop of black to tone the bright pinky-red for the window frames and upper weather boards (clap board). It is reasonably close to that of LMS maroon. White was used for the windows themselves and the door jams.

Here is the building after the chalk was added for mortar. One good thing about the chalk is that it also tones down the bricks, giving them a faded weathered look.

The roof has also been painted and weathered, no photo yet, bnut that will come.

Well, that's it for tonight. Time to get some ZZZZZ....

    Cheers, Gary.

Another parcel was on my door step this afternoon..., one that was a tad larger than the previous parcel.

I think you can guess what it is ??

Lets just say it isn't OO.... :whatever:

I know what I'll be doing over the next few afternoons and evenings... ;);)

    Cheers, Gary.

Upon opening the kit, I found several individual pieces and a very basic instruction sheet that has eight photos on it and very limited instructions. Hopefully this won't be an awkward kit to put together...

Well tonight I'll get the main assembly together and let it set overnight before proceeding to the next stage.

    Cheers, Gary.

I have been following the instructions carefully and they read that the main carcass should be pieced together first, then paint all the brick work before installation of the windows and glass.

So this is what I have done. The lower buttress sections (sitting on clear container) have been painted the same colour as the window and door lintel sections for something different. I did consider painting these in maroon, but I may just door the window frames and doors in maroon instead.

    It's getting there...

    Cheers, Gary.
