    Well...,

It will be exhibited a couple of times then I'll decide what I do with it. I ain't going to go overboard with OH gauge, only something different to do for now and for next years exhibition in June...

    Cheers, Gary.

Managed to get the other side of the rails painted after tea tonight. This side won't be seen by the punters or by the operators so it was a quick splash of paint. I will most probably check it tomorrow after work and fix any thin or missed spots.

Once the painting is done, I will 'soil' the baseboard between the tracks and then ballast. Once the ballast is done, a few washes of black and rust will be applied.

    Cheers, Gary.

Yep, painting rails, one of the most boring model rail related jobs. My layout too had a side that neither the operators or the public will see, but I decided I would know if the back side was not good enough! So it took a long time! Getting paint off the top of the rail was not much fun either.
    Yours looks great:thumbs:
    Cheers
    Tony

Liking the rail sides painted with the Citadel Mournfang, it looks more life like than some rust specific paints. Duly noted!

That's true Tony, but it certainly makes a big difference. I'll clean the rails up once I have done the touch ups.

The Mournfang Brown ain't a bad colour. I can always add the 'orange' rust in areas at a later date, or I will just use weathering powders. Will decide once all is done.

    Cheers, Gary.

I find the airbrush great for doing the rails, then paint the timbers, ballast then dirty it all down with a mix of Acrylic Raw Umber, White & Black, thinned down with flow improver and W5 glass cleaner.

But like the Citadel brown, will need to pay them a visit.

What a difference painting the track makes totally transform’s the look of the Peco from plastic looking to something that looks very realistic
I always get asked what I used to build the track used on Moonan Flats as if it’s something special and it’s standard Peco as well, just painted and on some parts I cut the webbing out between the sleepers so didn’t have to ballast so heavily to cover the web and I could have a some slightly random spacing on the sidings sleepers making it look not so well maintained
This is coming together nicely Gary

Nice work Gary, it looks great.

What will the track sit on. Will it be secure directly to the baseboard or site on cork or similar

    Hi Steve,

The baseboards are my old boards from a former semi complete layout. The boards are covered in 3mm cork. I prefer not to raise the tracks on a shoulder as I like the look of 'sunken into the landscape' look. Most small yards have very little relief in regards to shouldering ballast. All my other layouts have been finished the same way and I find the results are pleasing. One other bonus is it uses much less ballast !

    Cheers, Gary.

    Thanks Gary.

Yes, this makes sense. I had not thought enough about the look of a yard compared with a mainline.

I am looking forward to further progress posts and photos

Not to much happening on the layout after painting the track, but I did end up ordering 40 odd pounds ($82.00) worth of L-cut pieces to build the abattoir. I actually over ordered on some pieces, just to make sure I have enough and if I do make a mistake, well I don't want to wait several weeks for another order to arrive ! Then again, if there is plenty left over, it may be useful for the Christmas (scratchbuild) Competition....

So, I have started on building a few of my wagon kits that arrived several weeks ago. I have three on the go as I write this and all are pretty much up to the same stage of the build. I'll post up some progress pics later tonight.

    Cheers, Gary.

So far, the easy bit has been completed...

The individual pieces of the GWR open wagon. This will be built as the BR modified wagon...

    SR Meat Van under construction.

Rather than glue one end wall to the floor as the instructions suggest, I found it easier to glue one side/one end together, then piece them together as a box following up with adding the floor.

I got this far with these two then started on the LMS Meat Van. The LMS meat van requires a little more work than the SR meat van. I'll post a pic of the LMS wagon at a later date. Need to find my files first before continuing !

    Cheers, Gary.

Well, I must admit that I haven't had time to scratch myself let alone any more modelling... Currently I have been under the pump at work building a sizeable garden from scratch that needs to be completed prior to the opening on the 12th November. Something that last week was a grassed area has turned into 230m of steel garden edge, decorative corten steel screens, approximately 80m of deco granite pathways and more...

I have been getting home absolutely knackered... :faint:

But this afternoon a surprise was waiting at the door for me, all the way from the UK...

A box loaded with L-cut Creative laser cut ply pieces, all up 30 pieces for me to complete the build of the abattoir and platforms. ;)

I guess if it's raining after breakfast tomorrow, I'll could make a start on the build...

    Cheers, Gary.

Ok now, who mentioned the sales at Hattons...?? :scratchchin:
Oh that's right, I was sent an email and also kindly reminded by Ed in a recent post. No Ed, I'm not blaming you for my purchases... :avatar::avatar:

I have just extended the fleet by two new Dapol locos and a Heljan 35T tanker... One 3f Jinty, LMS Late Crest No. 16554 and one Class 8750 (57XX) Pannier in BR black with late crest, No. 3716...

Why the Pannier ?? Well, I read that loco no.3749 ran on the Wrexham to New Brighton line, so I'll renumber it and I'm also guessing it won't look out of place alongside a Jinty ! Then again, Rule No.1 can always be applied !!

    Cheers, Gary.

“......and once the new o gauge modeller is hooked, they will come up with all sorts of reasonable excuses to extend the fleet”......:avatar::avatar::avatar:
I know Gary, been there etc etc ...still will come in very useful when the garden layout gets built

Great purchases, you will be very impressed with the heljan tanker wagon.

Thanks Kimbo, just a little reassurance is all I need ! :avatar::avatar: :scratchchin:

I decided to buy just the one tanker, was going to buy two, but when I seen the Pannier at the price Hattons had them for, well....

Never thought I'd buy a Great Western loco, but lets not call it that, lets call it a BR loco.... ;);)

    Cheers, Gary.

I did think the O gauge locos were particularly well priced and I imagine you guys down under get the VAT off the price as well, so proper bargains

Ah, if only I had the space .................................................................... and the money :avatar:

Yes, they are bargains Ed and yes, no VAT added, which is a bigger saving again. Basically 2/3rds of the VAT paid for postage !:thumbs::thumbs:

    Cheers, Gary.
