Just put 4 pictures up on my build thread which you may find useful... I haven't finished mine either as it still needs build plates fitting and cab spectacle plate glazing along with some weathering.

Now after some checking of the Nickel Silver frets, there were some bits I thought would have been fitted already, and after checking the distructions, numpty head here had missed some steps, the ashpan sides and axle leaf springs. Having now fitted them, I must admit it would have been an awful lot easier if I'd done at the right time. :headbanger:

As I'm away for the next couple of days, I put the chassis through the Ultrasonic cleaner for 2 x 5 min stints. No other cleaning applied.

Next tasks will be to clean up the chassis, prime and paint.

    But that'll be next week.

Restarted work after the exhobition - great to be able to see the model I'm holding :avatar:

Cleaned the loco chassis, tender chassis and tender body for paint.

    Tender chassis

    Loco Chassis

    And the tender body

    And all three together

Allow to dry and get ready for black.

Not sure if black is the correct description of this loco's livery

A Perth engine on Stirling shed, but 44253 is the number - when I get round to ordering some transfers that is :whatever:

Maybe under the grime with a bit of t’cut and Polish!
But that’s the fun of the painting…

if only had the guts and skill to try it!

    You and me both .......

So today, I thought I'd try and change the painting order from Toto's tender, and spray the buffer beam with white primer, then spray the buffer beam red.

Judging by the over spray colours, I could have skipped the white primer. This needs to dry and harden before applying masking.

So first coats applied to the chassis

Still a few spots to touch up, but I'll get them when I paint the tender body.

Wheels to prep and spray next.

    Paul

NB (and too late now) when doing Red, do it on a yellow undercoat - something I learnt from a games workshopper years ago.
Although white is good for yellow..??
Black should go in grey I believe.

    did you use etch primer?

i did my manifold loco years ago, but alas the Halfords black primer used for the chassis started to rub off as sprayed straight on to the brass.. (I didn’t use an etch!!) unless I hadn’t cleaned it enough… although I thought I had at the time…

    Hi Andy

I've not used etching primer, just Vallejo Grey Primer.

Need to find where I put my masking tape.

    Hi Andy,
I think that there is a fair chance of paint rubbing off the chassis no matter what you use as it's the area where the movement happens .

    Ok

    Further progress today

1st off ordered up BR Steam transfers from HMRS - must be getting serious :avatar:

Masked off the buffer beam ready for black paint - that masking tape wasn't in such a safe place afterall - I found it.

Wheels blackened up, or should that be blued up - I didn't bother photographing it as it was the same as for Toto's tender.

Both chassis given another coat of black in between building up the coats of black on the tender.

    Tender chassis assembled

    And the Tender itself

Next up will be making up the plunger pickups for fitting to the loco chassis - but thats a job for tomorrow
