Carrying on from the ash pan. I cut some dummy sides for the lower firebox. I will probably add them once the frame is assembled.

This is the position they should end up in. There needs to be a small riveted disc in the cutout.

Next up was the smokebox front and rear. Along with the wrapper. Nice thing about the LSWR locos, most of the riveting was flush. No bumpy smokebox wrappers till much later.

I now wish I'd done the frames more prototypically, so I cut some extension, hopefully joining them to the top will work, the horn guides will help as they are too tall for the frames as is.

Finally for now some brake parts there are the two supports, the shorter pull levers to the brake rods, and the longer one to the hand brake. The power brake lever on the other side needs it's length determined. Also are the compensation arms for the bogie.
The above are cut but not filed.

Will start separating parts on Friday. As I think there are domestics tomorrow.

Not to much done as on Friday as one of our doors from the bedroom to the balcony exploded. So most of my day was cleaning up tiny bits of glass.

To carry on from last post. The brake parts are now fettled.

    IMG_20220330_103723011.jpg

Along with the compensation beams for the bogie.

    IMG_20220330_103758631.jpg

I also cut two blanking plates to go on the firebox sides in the frame cut out.

    IMG_20220330_104229252.jpg

Now I did separate most of the parts so far made. I need to refresh my mind to where I am.
Here are the frame parts. Just a few bits to to do. Sand boxes, power brake parts on the right, bogie spacer and axle boxes. Plus the dreaded coupling rods. I had hoped I'd find one that had non fluted rods, but I've not. So I will have to bit the bullet and get on with them.

    IMG_20220331_085253777.jpg

The body, most major parts are there, in reality it's just detail parts that need to be done as I get to them.

    IMG_20220331_085516309.jpg

Now it's almost a kit of parts I should really put them in a box with a picture of the loco on the outside.

I managed a little work around the cab and bunker.

On the cab front I marked up and drill the vent holes just under the cab front.

    IMG_20220403_112131404_resize_0.jpg

I did the same with the rear spectacle plate, but, also formed the shelf at the bottom.

    IMG_20220403_112051250_resize_15.jpg

The bunker front was then cut to height.

The bunker rear has also been cut to height, and had the flare bent on it.

The inner tanks were folded and soldered up.

I have made a start with some of the cab detail. I've marked out the two seat come tool boxes by the bunker, the cabinet for the rear spectacle plate, and the lower tank extensions. More on these next time I expect.

Managed a couple of hours on this while paint was drying.
I'm sort of copying LSWR practice with the cab interior, mainly looking at O2's and G6's working on the principal they'll all be similar, as designed by the same man. Here are the two cab sandboxes, they go in the bunker, cab side corners. I presume as they seem to have wooden tops they lift off for filling. I need to add operating levers.

Next is the locker that fits on the rear spectacle plate. This is ready for fixing in place. I made it as a simple box then added the door detail to the front.

Now back to the frames. I needed to make the compensation beams that sit either side, against the frames. I cut out the basic shape from two pieces of nickel soldered together. When made I tacked them and the frames together, and drill a pilot hole for pivot point. I always on this wheel arrangement, put it a millimetre or so towards the outer end, to put just a little more weight on the leading wheel. I find this leads to less derailing due to it not lifting quite so easily. It works for me, whether the theory is correct or not I'm not sure.

I also made a start on cleaning up the springs, I didn't get very far as they need more work than I first thought. The springs had more mould lines than I first saw, and the spring part is actually curved and in need of straightening. Then the usual task of getting the hangers inline and at the correct angle. The bottom one is almost complete, the others are patiently waiting their turn.

Should be able to do more shortly.

    Thanks Andy.
It is part of the hobby I really enjoy. There are so many facets to railways there is enough for everyone to have their own little bit.

Things are a bit hectic at the moment, my modelling room is covered in dust sheets along with the rest of the house, it's being decorated inside and out. I doing odd jobs that have been put off. Tickets are booked and we are flying to the UK in August. Just need to sell most things here, pack what we are and are not taking. Hopefully I might be able to restart the T1 in September. Thanks to all for looking in.
