About 1 year ago at, I think Doncaster show I bought the Petite Properties 4mm station building kit to put on my OO layout Lazarus. As I mostly model O gauge now it got pushed to the back of the "to do" list. However, as I seem to have got my MOJO back and have started modelling again I decided to fetch it out and have a go at building it. Also 'cos I am waiting for paint to dry and glue to set under the platform and scenery on Thaxham.
Anyway I have made a start first by painting round the door and window openings in a red ish brick colour as I will be cladding it in ScaleScenes brick paper and as I will be fitting the glazing first it will make life a bit easier.
Anyway I intend to try and make this a "how I do it" and I'm going to take photos of the process.
I have assembled some parts already and am very impressed by the quality of fit! No cutting or filing so far.

I did start painting the interior on the right hand end office, but gave it up as it's highly unlikely that it will be visible. I gave the glazing a quick wiz around the edges with my fibreglass pen to roughen it so the glue, canopy/glue and glaze type adhesive, it dries clear so any on the glazing won't be obvious.
I have left it for now for the glues to dry before finishing it.

    Cheer's, Pete.

I do like the look of these, even though they are a bit "chocolate box". What are the windows/frames made from?

Hi Matt, I know where you are coming from with these kits but the thing to remember with Petite Properties is they are a dolls house manufacturer, they've not been doing railway related kits for long and their core products are a little country/chocolate box lid type of thing. They are supplied as a plain MDF shell and you put your own finish to them. They do have suggestions to how to finish them, I have the book they've written with ideas such as Das clay cladding and scribing stonework. I'm going to clad mine in brick paper, the same as their own display model as I personally think it looks well.
The glazing supplied is printed acetate, you just cut it out and glue it behind the openings, its pretty sharp printing and I think the finished job will look proper.

    Cheer's, Pete.

I know it is only the carcass, but I'm waiting to see how this kit turns out !

    Cheers, Gary.

Did some more today, I have finished building the shell though it has thrown up a problem.
The internal wall to the left of the building (looking from the front) did not want to go in. It was because the slot and tab didn't line up, the slot was cut slightly to one side.

Anyway, I just cut the middle tab from the wall, dead easy as it's thin MDF and glued it up.
The rest of the walls fitted well so now I'm waiting for the glue to dry before attacking the brick work, if I can find where I have safely put it.

Well thats it for now, I will visit my local arts and crafts shop tomorrow and get some new blades for my craft knife for cutting out the window openings....
