    Hi Pete,

It's shaping up to be something special I think. Not only the plank but scratch built stock. A hard act to follow I think. Keep up the great work kind Sir.

Thanks lads , Mark, I was looking at it again this morning as I glued the bridge sides on and wished I had painted the middle a bit darker to infer depth, as it is it looks very shallow, still think it looks ok though, I,m not going to do any more to it, once the glue on the bridge has dried I will carry on with the ballasting, the first lot has dried, unfortunately it has got the dreaded green tinge to it, so I will have to slap some murk and muck on it to tone it down. The first lot of static grass went on last night, I have hoovered the excess off this morning and, it looks great, a bit bright but that can be sorted.
Toto, on the scratch building theme, I was going to use Scalescenes brick paper, suitably enlarged but on face book an advert for 7mm scale embossed brick paper popped up, so I have sent for some, tis coming from Italy so will take a few days, but when it arrives I will let everyone know what I think.

    Cheers, Pete.

    Good one Pete..:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

The colour of the water could indicate pollution and therefore you could have something depicted as the source of the pollution...maybe an old car body or a boiler or 44 gallon drums leaking into the water..... or anything that would suit.?????

    Just a thought :handshake:

And don't forget the obligatory supermarket trolley, the odd pram remains and a bike.

Right, I,ve ballasted and grassed the front left of the river.

I ran out of the 6mm grass I started with, so I sprayed the whole lot with hairspray and went over with a lighter Autumn coloured grass, I must say I like it a lot, what do you think?

Still loads to do but I have some ideas, still waiting for some new brick paper so I can start the second building, so I think I will build some coal staithes.

    Cheers, Pete.

    Looking good Pete

To give some variation you could put some tuffs of grass in.

One way to do this is roll some grass fibres between your hands this seems to align then and you end up with a length, then a drop of glue and plant a bit of the lenght then as the glue dries give it a bit of a tease and you have a grass tuft

You can also make placable tufts by putting drops of glue on a acetate sheet and push the roll of grass fibres into a glue drop then repeat until you have enough tufts, once dry peal off the sheet and place on the layout as required with another small drip of glue.

Hi Ian, the applicator is home made, I got the instructions off a couple of youtube videos, dead simple and cheap! it cost me around £20 to make compared to £100 + for a bought one ;), there is a photo of it on post 22.

Hi Chris, the grass fibres I am using are 6mm (I think, I,ve chucked the packaging), so I am looking for some longer ones to make tufts etc, I have loads of different scenic stuff to use yet, plumbers hemp, foliage net, etc, I will look at what others have done for inspiration.

    Cheers, Pete.

Its been ages since my last update, I,ve been working on my stationary engine but I have also built another house for the near side of the track, its still a work in progress but I have the main build done its now the fun bit, detailing, its a derelict building so things like windows that have been boarded up and broken drain pipes, any way have a look.

Its scalescenes brick paper and rendering on the bottom, the door is a resin casting and the window at the top is glazed using PVA and a cocktail stick, once it has set I will smash it! proper vandal me!

The drain pipe is made from plastic and the brackets made from thin strips of masking tape, it will appear broken once glued to the house, the gutter is half round plastic channel, once its gone I doubt I will get any more.

I will be going back in the shed soon so I hope to get some paint on the drain pipe and guttering then.

    Cheers for now, Pete.

Bit more done tonight, it needs some weathering next.

I have made a wall to surround the yard and covered it with the same brick paper, I am so impressed with it, I may not go back to the embossed plastic, I haven,t used the new paper I have got from Greece as I want to keep the same standard throughout the build, but the next project is definitely going to use it.

    Cheers, Pete.
