In part 4 I gave one example of a scenic break, I consider it an important aspect of the design so I think it is worth elaborating with some more examples, some complete, some WiP. 5.1 Break between wagon works and offices This separates the wagon repair works on the main board with the chemical works office block at a higher level. 5.2 Break between lower and upper docks The track climbs steeply from the dock and turns through some 140 degrees to exit on a lift up section with a bridge. This is still a WiP, the upper section is retained by two screws to allow the bridge section to lift, hinged at the rock face. 5.3 Break between docks and marshalling yard Very much a WiP, warts and all image, left hand portal leads to the marshalling yard via an incline, the right hand portal leads around to the dock. The dock road skirts this promontory. 5.4 Break isolating the industrial branch At the south end the heavy electrical engineers building dominates the foreground, a row of trees block the view of the other side of the room with the exception of the tallest structures of the cement works. The back of the electrical engineering works is sufficiently hidden by a row of firs on this embankment, the baseboard here is at a higher level relative to the works. 5.5 Break between engineering and cement works The rocky outcrop has a cutting through it as the track climbs to the cement works and colliery. I welcome open discussion on anything I present. To be continued, Jim. Index of Articles with Links
