[sup][sub]Some year or so ago I bought a load of oddments at an auction. (chassis, bodys and bits) and amongst it was a badly built Wills 4F kit. It was a mess so this afternoon I set about taking it apart. I don't know what glue they had used but it was a solid brown [/sub][/sup][sup][sub] mess. The tender wasn't too bad but as you can see by the pics the loco was a disaster. It has now been stripped down to its component parts ready for rebuilding. I will keep you all informed with the progress.[/sub][/sup][sup][sub] Still got a long way to go and I have to get a few replacement bits from Wills but I'm soldiering on. [/sub][/sup]
Hi Bittern, Looking forward to seeing the transformation. Looks like you have your work cut out. It'll be nice to see the change in fortunes. Toto
It is a whitemetal kit but I won't be soldering this one. I'll be using super glue and a fair bit of milliput to fill up where the previous owner wasn't too accurate with his filing.
Whilst I'm waiting for the parts to come from Wills I decided to sort out some more of the unfinished wagon kits I had lying around. Most of the work is painting and just adding couplings so that is my spare time sorted for a day or two. So far it amounts to 30 Dapol kits and a few Parkside.
Parts arrived yesterday so will be back on the 4F again over the weekend inbetween filming tomorrow as our local railway has borrowed a small steam loco for its santa specials.
Done a bit on the 4F. Progress so far. Now to start some filling and filing And this is the starting point for a couple of coach restorations This is a couple of old Triang clerestories that I am attempting to do something with More later
Those Triang Clerestory coaches seem to have quite well detailed mouldings, rather like the Triang EMU set I'm attempting to do something with presently. Are you intending to fit interiors to these? Keith.
Yes I am Keith. I'll be using plasticard for partitions and ratio coach strip for the seats. I have also changed the bogies from the horrible representation of a BR Mk1 to some Dean Clerestory bogies from Hornby. They will be about a foot or so out of scale but it doesn't really matter. I have tried them and they don't look too bad. The brake ends will have a standard tension lock coupling on the brake end and a fixed coupling on the other to form a fixed rake of three, the compo having a fixed coupling on each end. The wheels were also replaced by all metal ones. They will be outshopped in GWR pannelled livery so not much to do there then.
Whilst I was in town fetching some paint for the coaches I looked into one of our many Charity shops. Result was a pretty good Sir Nigel Gresley in Garter Blue with valances (it needs the handrails replacing as the plastic knobs suffered by the over enthusiam of its young previous owner but it runs a treat) and a Class 06 shunter in running condition but needs the body replacing (the little catches that clip it into place have gone). The pair for £30. Not bad.
There was also a Flying Scotsman with 3 gresleys and two thompson coaches and a Swallow liveried Electric loco, driving trailer and 2 mk3 coaches and a breakdown crane set. Have to go into town again tomorrow so might well pop in and see if anything is left.

Heres the progress so far on the Clerestory Brake Third. The bogies will be changed to some from the New style Hornby Clerestories. They are a tad on the large side but work ok. (10ft instead of 9ft.) Some more later
Lots of work gone into the detail painting of this It's looking good. Keep us all updated when you get to the bogie mods.http://www.click
Hi Bittern I will follow the progress of these with interest as I have been altering an old knocked about K's kit Dean Single (cheap Ebay find) into a 2-2-2, over the last couple of years, it's a long slow job in between all the other unfinished projects I have, I really must resist starting anything new. I also picked up four old Tri-ang Clerestories for just over a tenner, one of them has some of the painting done and I have been cutting the bogies about to look more like the Dean style and will look to fashion some suspension hangars later in the year, I also took the opportunity to add pin point bearings and axles as they were very poor runners. Thanks for posting. Jim
