I mentioned on my Kirk coach thread that I had tried to add the same level of detail to some of my 4mm stuff before finally moving to 7mm for good.
Because had I scratch built a full interior for my 7mm LMS BG, I had a 4mm Comet LMS period III bg in the pile so decided to build them in tandem and try to match detail for detail.
The seats are covered in leather courtesy of my good lady.

I was also one of my first foray's into using a bow pen for lining.

Looks like the lining turned out well Rob. Never used a bow pen since school days doing "Engineering Drawing" (which I did manage an "O" level in!), but since that's all of 55 years ago, don't think I'll bother again, as hands aren't too steady for that sort of thing nowadays.

Once upon a time. Along time ago ....

I attempted lining, and used the Bow pen method.

I put a thicker line of straw yellow, then used a rotaring pen (0.1 mm - I think) to put the black line through the middle. Seemed to work quite well.

    Thanks gents,
Looking back although the lining looks okay I could have got the numbers a bit straighter...

I don't have any build pictures of either one of the two of these that I built. - in fact I only have photos of this one.
This is built from a Roger Chivers (Chivers Finelines) plastic kit with some scratch built details added

This now resides in Canada. Ironically almost all my 4mm stuff ended up abroad when I sold it.

I love the out of the ordinary items of the railways and having seen a South Eastern Finecast kit for a Gas Tank Wagon I had to have one. This particular example coming my way via eBay (before I knew that SEF still existed).

And having done it all once I contacted SEF to see if they would sell me a kit with an additional tank to make the 3 tank version.
You will note that this one is vacuum fitted. All the brake gear came of the superb Ian Rice etches that used to be supplied by Mainly Trains.

Sadly, this is as far as it got before I embarked on my 7mm adventure so I never got around to putting any transfers on it and sold it as is.

    Thanks Ian,
As you might guess I plan to do it all again in 7mm and I have got part way there but that's for another day

I'm with the others. Very unusual and would be good to have one in 7mm. It would break up a rake of the more commonly available wagons nicely.

    Great stuff.

The only ones I have seen before have been GWR types so to see them in NE livery is great, very nice models Rob, it will be good to see a 7mm version too .

    Cheer's, Pete.

The next 4mm items that I have to share are a pair of ex NBR empty Cask wagons
One from a Ratio plastic kit and the second from a Bill Bedford brass kit. I commissioned the transfers from John Peck at Precision Labels and recently he scaled them up to 7mm for me in anticipation of my building a Dragon kit for the slightly shorter version of the cask wagon. - It hasn't hit the top of the pile yet though.

I had to scratch build all the brake gear on the Ratio version because the plastic bit's from what was quite an old 2nd hand kit disintegrated when I picked them up...

No one ever noticed that I got the doors on upside down on the BB version either.

One of the cheapest kit buys that I had while working in 4 mm was a Jidenco kit for a GWR Tadpole fish truck which I paid the princely sum of £7 for because it had one end missing. I very quickly knocked up a replacement from scrap etch and assembled the wagon.

Not the best photos in the world but it did scrub up nicely.

The irony is that when I was letting all my 4mm stuff go I had thought about donating this to Ormsby Hall MRC for one of their layouts as I know a few of the members.

At the last minute I added it to some listings on ebay not expecting it to sell. You can imagine my astonishment when in the last 15 minute the price kept climbing until it finally made £120 -there had been two guys bidding one in South Africa and the other in Denmark with the South African winning the day.

    Thanks Toto,
It was a surprise to me at the time because I hadn't been building kit's for very long and probably more importantly some of the RTR locos that I sold around the same time had only fetched £50-£60 so £120 for a wagon was the stuff that dreams are made of. - it certainly helped my 7mm kit stash off to a good start.

In another thread I have been sharing my adventures in building Kirk 7mm kits.

I also built a couple in my 4mm days although I can mostly find photos of the Buffet car.

While looking for something else this morning I found a few more 4mm build photos so decided to add them to my thread.

First up the Chivers BY120 pigeon van

I also found some more photos of the interior build of the Comet LMS BG

I had forgotten what fun I had trying to add the same level of detail as to the 7mm CRT version that I was building at the same time.
