    If you rotate the foot board to 45 degrees for printing, you will reduce the peel force, reduce the amount of supports required, and those that are present will be on the sides not seen, and keep the print times down.

    Messing with the foot boards and supports proved relatively simple. Currently 3 separate bodies, left and right spring assemblies and the footboard. So a question for our 3d expert Paul. Print all 3 separately or all together as a single body? I'm currently favouring 3.

    I'd print them seperatetly, as there are too many delicate, and removing the supports would tend to break items.

    that was my thoughts but good to get it confirmed. Just the brakes to think about now, but only on a tea break and need to put my virtual pinny back on now.

    Domestic duties done so pinny off, going out for tea but time for a quick fiddle with brakes. I hate etched brake gear it just looks flat and not right, but I thought check it first.
    Below a calibrated scan of the etched brake gear, then roughly positioned around a circle to represent a 3' 7" wheel. Hmmm two comments a) absolutely no brake detail and b) look at the gap between the brake shoe and wheel - obviously long travel brakes, anyway they are coming off and redrawn to be 3D printed.

    The basic problem now is to figure out the height of the bogie above rail height which then would allow me to calculate the centre of the wheel. It should be easy but after 5 hours of painting a ceiling my brain is dead, so any progress is being left over till tomorrow morning.

    Forget last nights mutterings, in the clear light of the day it all became obvious.
    By my reckoning the bogie will sit 20.5mm above rail height. The chassis is 7mm deep, with the c/l of the buffers at 3.5mm.
    Since the height from rail to buffer c/l is 24.5mm, there's a gap of .5mmto fill, which will be made up of the wire compensation on the top of the bogie, and shim to fill the remainder.

    The plan for connecting the bogie to the chassis is pretty simple, an 8BA cheesehead dropped through a hole cut through the chassis such that the cheesehead is slightly below the top of the chassis member and glued into position. Depending on how much packing is needed I was thinking of gluing a washer to the underside of the chassis, so the compensation is metal on metal. But a final solution will be decided during assembly.

    The brake gear is pretty simplistic given almost none of it can be seen. A 39.5mm cross member required to span the gap in the etch and simple brakes attached in the correct positions.

    I seem to have negotiated a few days where the printer can be brought down out of the attic (the boss is having a few girly days away) so the various components of the bogies may well get printed in the next couple of weeks, so playtime will be limited only by sleeping and eating!
