Mossy was kind enough to send me a couple of his scrap Brake van bodies and in between I am playing about to see what sort of cameo scenes I can make from them. Here they are after a squirt of Vallejo primer.
It hasn't taken you long to start playing with those bodies I sent you! I'm amazed how well those handrail ends show up, they are tiny - 2.5 mm long if I remember correctly. Mossy
Always worth a shot of primer and a wash before binning reasonable fails, gives clues at what is right or needs correcting, as sometimes we need to "enhance" a feature for it to show, or not bother at all. I remember seeing a TV program, where Corgi designers said they made cars wider than scale as we are used to seeing them at normal viewing heights, but with a model / toy we are effectively viewing it from the top of the worlds tallest buildings and are percieved too thin. I think my 12":1ft vehicle was made by Corgi, as it doesn't seem to fit in car park spaces any more Paul
As a part of redrafting the V1/1 body and having studied the Salter drawings in more detail I have change the hand rail endings from a simple rectangle with radiused ends into more of an ace of spades like shape (without the stalk) al la: But fascinated to see what you do with the scrap bodies.
I have been having air brush troubles since I primed the van bodies. I have 3 airbrushes two cheapo eBay specials, one of which I really like and an Iwata Revolution CR and none of them would work. My favourite cheapo is one with a glass jar for the paint vessel. It has plastic tube up which the paint is sucked. Now I am not sure how long I have had these two cheap air brushes but it's in excess of 10 years so I don't suppose I can complain when the plastic tube completely perished and literally fell to bits when I touched it while loading some paint into the jar. I need to source some narrow flexible tube, I thought I had cracked it because I have some spare from when I repaired the petrol pipe on my petrol brush cutter but it's a little too big. The Iwata I couldn't fathom, it wasn't allowing any air to come through it what so ever. In the end I took every part of it apart and soaked it in IPA including the air inlet valve. After a thorough clean it still wouldn't allow any air through. It was at this point I recalled a guy mentioning when reassembling the airbrush to add a little lubrication to the parts away from the paint. I added a single drop of machine oil to the trigger pin, worked it about a little and hay presto air began to flow again. So I was able to do a little more on the van bodies before the results of the GG show were announced at 4pm. Not the best photo but the V1/1 has a coat of red oxide over the primer. I have slightly different plans for each van so the V1/2 van was painted in NER livery or an approximation of it. I didn't have any vermillion paint so I mix some burnt red and orange together but I think I still need it more 'orangy' than it is at present. It's not really a problem as it will be heavily weathered I think. It actually looks better in the photos than it does to my eyes in the flesh.
Rob, I am scrapping the 2 V1/1 bodies and roofs I have printed because of all the minor improvements I have made, if you want a roof for the V1/1 I can send one over to you. If anyone else wants a scrap body/roof to play with they can have one. Cover the postage £3.65 so with packaging make it £5 and make a small donation to Children in Need, just get in touch. I have 2 v1/1 bodies, assuming Rob wants a roof, then 1 spare roof, and 3 V1/2 bodies but no roofs.
Yes please mate, no rush though. Can I be cheeky and have another V1/2 body too? - I just love outside framed vans.
Rob, No probs roof and V1/2 on the way, would you prefer the standard V1/2 body or one with the diagonal in the opposite sense.
If you have a van body left spare Mossy I would like to buy one from you mate, doesn't matter what diagram. Cheers, Pete. Pm'd you mate.
