Considering there are over 80 odd fires burning across New South Wales, it's always better to play safe.. In Sydney alone, we have not had 'proper' rain (more than 5mm) in over 8 weeks...

Here is a current map courtesy of NSW Rural Fire Service showing fires that are currently burning...

    Cheers, Gary.

    Yes possibly a good thing
As will have a straight front Bogie by then.
So that should be one thing less to worry about

And as Gary noted lighting fires was not recommended although a fully contained gas fire is OK.

Also with fires all round the area also probably best no extras were accidentally lit
the biggest thing was the wind and risk of the models being blow off the track

    Nice videos Chris. :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Would like to see a rake of HGM/HGX's and a guards van behind the Garretts doing their best to replicate the W44, or a string of fully loaded BCH's and a guards van !

    Cheers, Gary.

Yes Gary a nice long train of BCH Coal hoppers would look good.
Don't know of anyone that has any though.
One of the Guys has a small rake of John Brown non air hoppers and a coal fields brake van. But not enough to challenge a Garret or three.

Real Machinery was at play today
With several jobs that needed machining I visited a friends workshop and made friends with his great big Mill
Some of the jobs neede a real Mill not a hobby Toy.
The small hobby ones don’t have enough bead travel when you start playing with Oscale models it’s a PiTA havning to stop unmount the job and remount set up and start again when it should be done in one pass
-Today a few chassis blocks for DCC fitting clearances done
-A Bachmann cab piece from the new collet Goods so the wiring clears it between chassis and motor.
Then lastly something that’s been waiting for a while, a O scale chassis from a NSW 59 class that need a long section machines out of the cast alloy chassis and brass bearing block, so to be able to get the loco to the correct height

The 59 chassis in the Mill

US hood style Diesel chassis has had large sections removed to fit speaker and decoder

As whilst I was machining parts I machined the Bachmann Collet Good locos cab interior casting that has no provision for the pickup wires the example I have here had been DCC fitted by Hattons the wires were cut through by the installer trying to force the model back together with the wires able to short on the cabs casting
    2A8D11A4-97BA-4B4D-BB22-D2AC5862E1B0.jpeg

also the decoder installed by Hattons, was slightly too big and was causing issues with the body fitting over the front of the chassis it had been screwed down tight causing a Visible curve to the loco body

So Cab floor machined and installed, a new small LaisDCC decoder installed was a 6 pin now made into a hard wire

and it’s a runner been on the rollers for 20min and all is good job done back to it’s owner tonight.

Good to see the Aussies have cottoned onto using the LaisDCC decoders Chris. I appreciate they are not always the right one for the job, but they'll do nicely for the majority of models (at least in 00 gauge) as long as there's enough space to physically fit them, and having fitted upwards of 30 of the 6,8 and 21 pin versions, I can't fault them, especially at a wallet friendly UK price of a 'tenner'!:giggle:

Yes Keith the Lais DCC are great value I buy direct
I did a bulk order of 50 units of a couple of types 6 pin 21 pin almost all gone now in DCC customers locos and the price I put on them is close to the UK price which is about a 1/3 of the price of other similar decoders in Australia so no wonder they disappear out the door Quick I’ve used them in all my DJM J94s that would not run nicely with TCS decoders for some reason “always hunted” swaped the TCS to the Lais 6 pin smooth as with out any adjustments.:thumbs::lol:

Just about ready for another order they were out of stock last month of a lot of the ones I wanted :( so hopefully restocked by now.
