Hi all as the title says this was something free. Whilst in the local Newsagents I thought it’s been a long while since I got a Railway mag so took a look and this took my eye it’s the Dec 2018 Railway Modeller and came with a free Ratio Grounded van body kit and at $9.99 i thought it’s worth getting for a little modelling project. Yes I know it’s January 2019 but in the Big Land Down Under we are often months behind with the Mags so this is nice and current for us. So what was attached in the pack on the front Well what it said a van body kit and it’s looks like it a first quality casting not a seconds that they have decide to dump as a freebie. Now it’s the basic body just without the floor/ underframe and W irons all very basic but as can be seen in the image on the package will make a nice Van body for detailing in a yard. Close up of the kit parts well worth getting as a bonus with the Mag
Bugger! I'd read elsewhere that this was in the January issue and was wondering why I couldn't find it! Looking forward to seeing it built! Matt
Sorry Matt it’s only just appeared down under, Got to say it’s Good value even if you don’t want the mag as I’ve seen the original Ratio Grounded van kit in the hobby shops for $14.95 - $18.95au depending on the shop. Basically the same as a rolling Ratio kit. And I think this is for a later style of Van than the original kit, very much suitable for what I’m thinking of using as, a Grounded van in a NCB diorama for my NCB locos.
I got this one last year. Its a really nice kit and go's together well. I made mine exactly as it was designed and with a bit of weathering will look good on my "Lazarus" layout, that is if I can remember where I've put it......... Pete.
I picked up one this morning from the newsagent at Baulkham Hills. I have no idea what I'll do with it though, as it would look a bit out of place on my layout if I could find somewhere for it. Maybe I'll end up fitting it to a spare wagon underframe.....
Ratio make some nice kits and this is no exception, I put a floor in mine and opened the doors also they are very simple to make. Mike
