Recently there has been some talk on speed matching locomotives. I have found a few youtube videos that shows you how to speed match a couple of locomotives.

This first video shows how to speed match by adjusting only three CVs...

The 2nd video is using the Accutrack Speedometer

The 3rd video shows you speed matching using JMRI

    Cheers, Gary.

    Thanks Garry

Much needed on my layout and as I have said elsewhere I have the
Accutrack device on order. The second videos is in my opinion the way to go as it shows you how to adjust speed settings across the entire range based on JMRI rather than just a couple of CV settings.

It is a really good video.

Some modellers I have discussed this issue with wonder why we should go to the trouble but I like to model scheduled trains and the misfortune they can come to. Look at those great freights we see locally where there is what is referred to as a "lashup of Streamliners"

Well they do really look good on your layout hauling a wheat consist from Parkes with GM 1, 4508, 4301 and 4201 in charge. Not possible without speed matching.

Also the misfortune. "The early morning mixed from Camden to Cambelltown with 3051 in charge failed. Luckily 4106 (diesel hydraulic) was on light coal duty at Narellan and was able to assist."

    A nice bit of modelling.

Actually now that I think of it, this latter problem could well form the basis of a display plank?

If you have JMRI and an Accutrack, it is really easy to speed match.

Accutrack has arrived from the USA and I have had great fun playing with the JMRI tables.

I use program on the main rather than the program track and have not encountered any problems but just in case I shut down the electronic circuit breakers to the areas of the layout where most locos are housed.

Have now achieved consistent speed matching with all of my Loksound decoders and am now working on Tsunami. You have to remember to set inertia to zero before you start and for QSI deactivate the voice response for CV changes otherwise CV changes can be corrupted.

I set all locos to a maximum speed of 70 kph which seems to be quite realistic given the size of my layout. Very easy to run slow speed freights as using NCE 28 speed settings you just select 14 and they are running at 35 KPH. I make fine adjustments to the tables to ensure I have reasonable consistency throughout each of the 28 speed settings. I have had a brief look at my QSI decoded locos. QSI does not support mid range settings so you have to use individual speed tables and have to change a few CVs to ask QSI to actually adopt the new tables. When I finally get my head around posting videos, it will be fun to show a few different pairings and even quads. They do look quite realistic.

    Cheers

    and happy modelling

This is a repost for testing purposes as the above one did not seem to make it to the forum.

    Hi Paul

Your post appeared momentarily under new threads but is now gone but mine is still there. Nothing under recent posts for either of them. Where do things go after new threads as I thought they went to new posts or is there still some strange bug there?

    Cheers

    Richard

Richard, I have found that . It shows up in the thread straight away but not on New posts/ Recent Threads and it seems to come good after a few minutes.

Thanks Paul and I see that your post is now there but the new posts section seems to be running an hour or two behind. I will be monitoring it all day as I want to be sure that we can all get access to the full historical new posts to make sure we do not miss things.

    Cheers
