Totally agree Gary .. the sound of the beer fizzing as the top comes off .. cold beer running down your chin as you guzzle it down .. the look on the faces of others as they shake their heads in despair .. now that's what I call summer!

So ... having seen the Paul/Toto traverser I'm inspired to design my own using neodym magnets it being only a small one. The theory is that with a row of magnets (to required strength) in the baseboard and other rows in the end of the traverser. Each track on the traverser can then be positioned/fastened exactly as each row of magnets attract and lock on. They should then always align.

Ref my proposed mini traverser (4 tracks each long enough for 3 box vans or 4f/fairbourne engine)
    Q. Your ideas for the electrical connections please.

I would use a rotary switch on the traverser. This would allow you to power up any one of four tracks. You could run the wires from the main board to the rotary switch.

    Cheers, Gary.

    G`day Ian,

    Your magnet idea sounds interesting......:scratchchin:

As far as wiring the traverser goes, I would think a system where only the active road lined up with the entry road, would be safer.

In other words, the non active roads un-powered until into position with the entry road. This would stop any accidental movements or running stock off the traverser ends.

Having said that.....Gary`s method would be simpler ......you would just have to be careful and make sure your settings were correct before you move a train.

Got it Gary love it I don't have to worry about spring loaded contacts etc. It might be a challenge finding a 4 way switch but if it came to it 4 x single on/off would do.

Brill cheers mate (may all your Roo's be little ones)

Cheers Gormo you've also given me an idea .. I've got some Peco isolator switches ..if I wire them up as switches and mount them on the traverser and mark them for each track section and paint a red line where the switch is in live position .. and place a Toto net under the end .. sorted gents thanks.

Here is a photo of the underside of my rotary switch and a coloured diagram for ease of wiring...

Terminals on the underside are numbered as in the pic above and diagram below. I have missed every second terminal as I wanted an 'off' position between each twist of the knob. You can wire them in sequence if you wish and you shall notice that the two opposite terminals are your positive and negative, ie green 3 negative and black 9 positive, blue 1 negative and blue 7 positive, etc etc...

I hope this explains the wiring simply. ;);)

    Cheers, Gary.

As its been a while since I posted any progress on St Emilia (I've been writing my book) I decided to start on the track infill using a a thin rubberish sheet (A3 size) that i got from the craft section of the esteemed honourable Chinese shop. I had first tried card but it was difficult to get the exact shape on the curves and this stuff is flexible and glues )pva) down quite quickly.

Good evening guys .. the sheets come in about 20 colours and can be A4 to A3 in size, the Spanish use them to make their fiesta costumes I'm told. The book? You were nearly right.. it's actually called 'the goatee beard .. regional differences and it's hemispherical relationship to gravitational alogarithms' .. it'll knock em dead what yer reckon?
