Been out and about again this weekend, both to the South Devon and chasing steam specials in Devon. Here they are. Collett Goods No. 3205 returned to GWR livery at the South Devon Railway No. 6412 at Staverton on the South Devon Railway No. 60163 'Tornado' leaving Newton Abbot on the 'Torbay Express' No. 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland' passing Newton Abbot on the 'Royal Duchy' That's all for now. More to follow.
Hi Bittern, Great pictures as usual. You must have been reading my mind, I had a lengthy conversation at the St Andrews Exhibition today with regards to the a Duchess of Sutherland in maroon livery. It came out as a set with a Hornby many years ago at the same time as a class 47 set. I couldn't make up my mind which one I wanted for Xmas ....... So the folks took over ...... The 47 won. I never did get the a duchess. Maybe one day. Thanks for posting up. Cheers Toto
Rumour has it that Sutherland will be reverting back to maroon later this year, whether it will be LMS or BR has not be decided yet.
Hope its LMS. I know that my own interests have mainly been BR but to me, When you mention The Duchess of Sutherland, it is synonomous with the LMS colours. keep us posted Bittern.
Here are some Diesels from the South Devon Railway and topped off with something from the Past. It's the LSWR Goods Office on the Barbican at Plymouth. I've passed it many times and hadn't bothered to look up and see what was written on it. Class 33 No. D6501 Class 25 No. D7612 Class 37 No. 6737 Class 08/09 No. D3721 And the Goods Office. That's it for now. Out again tomorrow so may have some more to put up.
Excellent photos Bittern I wonder how many other members have 'not looked up' at the buildings around us ... it would make a good thread Cheers Ian
Ah, ha. I wondered where the prototype for this was... http://www.modelrailwayscenery.com/2015/08/goods-receiving-office-backscene-bx004-oo4mm176/ Ed
Trip out again today. Some pics will be up tomorrow. Will have a nice interesting one in a couple of weeks as Princess Elizabeth is gracing our rails.
Great pics Mick. Like the 2nd pic with the aggressive looking dog having a go at the passing train ! Ian's right about the LSWR Goods Office building. It's amazing that we walk, drive, ride past these iconic buildings not even thinking about them twice. Cheers, Gary.

Today saw 46233 Duchess of Sutherland grace our shores. She was on the Cathedrals Express to Kingswear but due to clearance issues was taken off at Newton Abbot and the tour went on to Kingswear behind a Diesel. In normal circumstances the Duchess would have been turned at Churston on the P&D Railway but being barred from the line to Paignton it had to come light engine to Plymouth for turning on the Laira Triangle. In what can only be described as horrendous weather conditions I managed to get some shots of it entering Plymouth. I hope you like them. Thats it for now. Might get Tornado tomorrow if not the Princess next weekend.
Managed to get over to Dawlish Warren this morning in time to get some pics of Tornado travelling along the Exe Estuary between Starcross and Dawlish Warren. She was on the Torbay Express and had a good head of steam in her. That's it for now folks. More later.
A change of scenery this Saturday, I've been to the Bodmin & Wenford for a change so some goodies for our Southern fans and a couple of neat little locos (plus a moggie minor van). Enjoy. No. 4612 at Bodmin Parkway No. 5619 at Bodmin General No. 6435 at Bodmin General No 30120 at Bodmin General Beattie Tank No. 30585 at Bodmin General Beattie Tank No. 30857 at Bodmin General Port of Par 'Judy' at Bodmin General. They have 'Albert' as well but he wasn't out playing today. They were built to go under a very low bridge near Par with clay trains. Sentinel Shunter at Bodmin General. This was gifted (working) to the railway by IMERYS in need of cosmetic tlc after standing near Par covered in clay dust for several years. Looks nice again now and works a treat. Link to more info on this loco http://bodminrailway.co.uk/stock/moreinfo/83 Morris Minor Van at Bodmin General Hope you liked them. More possibly tomorrow if I venture out. The SDR and perhaps Tornado are on the target list.
Just been going through some old files and came across these vids I put up on YouTube in 2013.Hope you like them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KevjByza6gI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCLVmCNsgxA
Looking forward to Saturday when 46201 Princess Elizabeth is coming into Plymouth on its way to Penzance. It's due in at 1812hrs and takes on water then leaves at 1920. Plenty of opportunity for pics as long as the light holds. On Sunday it is coming through again hauled by a Diesel in reverse from Penzance for turning at Laira as it is too big for the turntable at St. Blazey, then returns to Penzance (again in reverse) hauled by the Diesel. Don't know the times for that yet but it gives extra photo chances. Tuesday sees it into Plymouth again mid morning, taking on water then heading off to London Victoria. That gives me yet another chance, so there should be plenty to put up for you all.
Had a busy early evening today at Plymouth. We started with No. 6201 'Princess Elizabeth' coming in with the Cathedrals Express, this was quickly followed by its support engine Class 47 No. 47746 'Chris Fudge'. Not long after the smoke had settled we had Western Diesel No. D1015 'Western Champion' coming through. Just before the Princess, in fact that was held by the Class 150 leaving Plymouth as the Princess had to cross over onto the up line to get to its allocated platform. Class 150104 leaving Plymouth. The light in the tunnel is from No 6201, held to let the 150 out. No. 6201 'Princess Elizabeth' entering Plymouth North Road. No. 47746 'Chris Fudge' entering Light Engine to Plymouth North Road. No. D1015 'Western Champion' leaving Plymouth North Road. Tomorrow will see the visit of the Princess and Class 47 again as they come up from Penzance for turning at Laira and on Tuesday the Princess will be coming through again en-route to London Victoria so there will be some more pics to follow.
Here's the Princess again being towed to Laira for turning. No. 47746 was doing the hauling. And now, a prototype for everything. Mini-HST at Plymouth North Road. More on Tuesday, weather permitting.
