All temporary rail supports fitted & glued in around the pit area of the depot. Last Thursday 27/2/19 5 weeks from the initial start of part 1 of the project all wired up & ready for the initial test run which went all to plan with thanks to Kim & Ralph.
Time to start the Depot build. We have not been able to get a scale drawing from anywhere so using the many pictures Paul has and those I have found on the web, I’ve started to draw out a scale plan of the front of shed B on graph paper. This I’ve then glued to a thick modelling card and the basic openings cut out. This has shown a few areas that need to be altered. we will do a trial fit across the track work this week and no doubt make a few alterations. At the moment the building looks to be approx 570mm wide, 270mm high and we are making the length 600mm long which is one loco long as opposed to the original housing two locos in each lane. Kim
I have a colleague who drives our diesels at the Churnet Valley who is an ex Stratford driver... I don’t know if he may have any material to assist?
Fingers crossed Andy. Finding pictures of the side of the shed would be really useful, the only ones I can find seem to always have a diesel unit parked up in front. had a second go today and I think the front elevation is much closer now to the prototype. Front and rear panels will be exactly the same, representing front of shed B and Shed C Side panel, just plain for the moment. Looking forward to placing it on Pauls layout with a few locos parked up inside.
Reply from David Hi Andy, yes I'm a Stratford man 1971-1986, cleaner, passed cleaner, secondman, driver and Traincrew supervisor. The link didn't work but I found the club website but couldn't look at the pictures unless I open an account which I'll do later. There is a facebook site Stratford Depot Photos Only which might be useful if you friend uses FB. If you want to pass on my details I'll try to answer any questions about the depot. hope this can help, and yes I’ve asked David to join up
Hi Andy......yes I saw two new members names try to join today, Stratford Driver and Stratford ?? Probably just waiting for Toto’s approval. Will be good to David onboard.
Managed 5 mins today with Paul to check out how the shed looks on the board. There’s a couple of tweaks to make to the front and rear of the shed , the side door ways are probably a tad over sized which will mean cutting 2mm off each side. This will give a little more track clearance to the sides of the shed. Also I hadn’t realised the sides of the shed are in fact recessed slightly so that the roof over hangs the sides. No trouble to alter that. The mock up has also revealed another challenge, that been the over hang of the locos as they negotiate the set track points entering the shed at the rear. The door openings are fine but the raised platform, yet to build, will have to have a slight tapper on them to allow for the over hang of the longest loco. Paul recons his next purchase, class 40 might be the biggest offender...... This shows you the benefit of making mock ups in a cheap material like card, much easier to alter and change things at the early planning stages before committing to more expensive products. Kim
Hi, I'm the person Andy Sollis mentioned, I worked at Stratford 1971-1986 as engine cleaner, passed cleaner, secondman driver and Traincrew supervisor, I'll try to answer any questions you might have about the depot.
