Sunshine, Palm Trees and a Food Industry...

I'm still waiting on a couple of detail items for both locomotives shown in the previous posts. I decided to put the bodies back on the chassis as I don't want dust getting into the electronics etc.

Before I put the body on the GP9, I decided to weather it and also the bogies and fuel tank. Using a few techniques I learned from Dan's Railroad 2011 (https://www.youtube.com/user/DansRailroad2011), I went about the weathering the loco with a faded, heat scorched paint on the long hood and some paint chipping else where on the body, as well as the usual rust damage and rust marks along the body sides.

This was all done with acrylics and two paint brushes, a fine tip paint brush for applying the scorching, chipping and minor rust and a broad soft brush for feathering the layers of paint.

It is a simple technique and the end results are very pleasing. So I went from this pristine model...

The long hood roof showing the scorched paint work, exhaust staining and cab roof...

The short hood with paint chipping effects and the general wear to the paint where the crew climb up over the hood...

Well as some of you know, I had posted a thread on scratch building telegraph poles (see here : https://platform1mrc.com/p1mrc/inde...an-exercise-in-ho-scale-telegraph-poles.5831/ )

I have now scratch built 6 x poles all up, they just need paint. Here is a pic of the first four poles in a Lego holding pen. The other two poles I have built are of the smaller cross arm type, although no transformers, similar to the third pole across.

Here is a pic of the four poles in situ on the layout, albeit with no paint or weathering...

All the telegraph poles have been painted/weathered and placed back on the layout. All I need now is a roll of EZ Line for the wires !
