    Looking good Paul. :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:
I'd watch out Toto, Paul's traverser will get more attention than the layout...

    Cheers, Gary.

More than likely Gary. Might distract from some of my dodgy workmanship. :avatar:

C'mon now, you can't call it 'dodgy workmanship, it is only half completed. You better split dodgy straight down the middle and call it doc and leave the lgy for latter, when it's complete... :avatar::avatar:

    Cheers, Gary.

The purge is on for me to get the wiring complete now as the first traverser is as good as ready on a manual basis. I'll beaver away at that now. It shouldn't take too long.

The only thing I'm not over confident with is the isolating breaks but I'll get there. It will be good to see all four boards working as a unit. I'll need to get another couple of sets of trestles from B and Q soon.

I'll persuade the messiah to do a visit for a test fit of the traverser. :avatar:

    G`day Guys,

    Lookin` good.

Paul has form with these high tech traversers......I`m thinking this will be a good one. The more you do , the better they become.

They will be the most reliable part of the layout. :avatar: looking forward to seeing it in the flesh. Visitors to the Elgin exhibition could be in for a treat.

Just placed an order for a 25mm router bit, to cut the alignment jig rebates.

The jig has a series of 30mm holes, which are a sng fit for the 30mm dia router guide bushes.

By fitting the appropriate cutter 8mm or 10 mm for the bolt holes (more on this in a mo) 25mm for the pattern makers alignment dowels. The female dowel holes will also need an 8mm hole for the pin.

    http://www.stationroadbaseboards.co.uk/cart_dowels.htm

Why the 8 or 10 mm hole for the bolts, well..... we are using M8 bolts, but as the traversers are hoped to be around for some time and be used for several layouts, so the idea is to drill 10mm holes and use 10mm dia steel tube as a sleeve, and glue in place with araldite.

    Hi Cameron

We (Toto and myself) have used the pattern makers dowels on Luib Bridges original boards, and fitted them using a 25 mm forstner bit, and they work really well.

When we fit these we will take plenty of photo's and maybe even a video.

Now to making the spacers for the linear guide rail brackets.

Knocked these up in 123D design, adjusting the cut out to give the spacer distance I require.

Then set them off to print.

Those holes look a bit too close together - NUTS, aw well at least I stopped the print before it got too far ....... back to the drawing board :whatever:

    Later.....

Dunno about Carlsberg, but there's people selling them on fleabay now.

If I ever build a traverser (and you never know, one day I might) I'll know where to come for advice

Quick trip to the shed, and test fitted the spacers

I think I may have to swap the brackets round the other way as we are very tight for travel distance.

    And with track

A trip in the morning to Toolstation for a box of brass screws to secure all the track ends.

Black emulsion applied to the base unit, and when fully dry a coat (or 2) of exterior satin varnish to seal / protect

Next step is to drill and fit the dowels and bolt holes, then bring the unit indoors for track laying and wiring.

I'll try and post pics later.

1st coat of satin varnish on the bits I can get at

Hopefully it will get moved out of the shed and into the Railway room where I can hopefully move and work in relative safety, rather than balancing on anything that can support it
