    Hi Gary,

I won't be swapping anything. I am just going along with some leaflets and cards to see if I can encourage any visitors to join up with us. There won't be a huge number of people but however many do turn up will be a target audience. If We get one new member out of it, it's a result.

Now, I need to go and perfect my sales pitch........:avatar:

    Cheers for now

    So,
photo's of other bits of the modern image diesel shed from Townstreet as requested.
We'll kick of with the front ( and back ) entry's, there are two of these with roller shutter doors cast half open.
[IMG] You can see where the wall cladding ends and the brickwork wall starts.
Below is a mid way internal supporting wall as the walls are two panel lengths long. It will become clearer as we go. Again, a mixture of cladding and brickwork.

Next up, one of four wall sections ( two each side ) detailing the door in as well as two high level window sections.

and a close up of the same showing the door a little better.

and last a shot of the roof panel section, again, there are four of these.

complete with cast in vents, windows and a catwalk strip for maintenance ( this photo is upside down. the catwalk should run along the bottom.
The castings may need a light rub down although there is not much flash as these are relatively new castings. they get painted before assembly in order to achieve the best results. they can always be touched up once assembled if need be.
Now ....... just to get started.
    cheers

Beautiful crisp plaster mouldings Toto. The model looks very easy to put together. You mentioned painting before assembly. Is this easier to do because of the size and weight, or for another reason ??

    Cheers, Gary.

    Hi Gary,

One of the reasons that you paint first is that Colronwood stain is used for the brickwork. I don't think it takes to pva that well so if you glue first, the finishY not be as good. It's also just easier to handle in parts as well. Especially the inside faces.

I dare say there will be others who build first but I just took Pats advice.

    Cheers

All weathering powders , lotions and potions have arrived and also my intermodal containers. I feel whatever happens this weekend ........ It will involve paint or powders of some sort.

I am determined to try and drag myself into the shed this weekend.

    Cheers

Don't limit yourself to just one medium. I have found that using a mixture of media and textures is the way to go - acrylic and oil-based paints and washes, powders, pastels, chalks, all have their places, often on the same project.

I sometimes even use the gunge from the bottom of the turps jar mixed with a little matt varnish and applied as a wash.

I have powders and washes as well as straight paint.
I've been reading up on different layers and laquers / varnishes etc to apply to facilitate taking certain coverings etc. quite technical.
    cheers

A box of five 21 pin decoders ordered for my class 25's. Should come early next week from Hattons. Picked up a royal Mail letters motorised parcels unit as well. Going for £59.

    Cheers

If that's the Heljan Gloucester class 128, I love the red parcels livery but cannot justify one when there are plenty of models more suitable for my modelled area.

Be aware that you need a 4-function decoder to take full advantage of all the lights on these units: two for the directional head/tail lights, and one each for the two cab lights.

Thanks for the heads up on the decoder. I'll pay particular attention to that. Have not looked to see if it's an 8 or 21 pin. I'll look into that.

    Cheers

21 pin! I used a Bachmann 36-557 decoder in my blue one. Not the world's best decoder but adequate for an item that will only get occasional use.

The hauling power of the Heljan model exceeds the prototype by a considerable margin. The real ones could haul a couple of parcels vans if needed, where the Heljan one has hauled 36 coaches on gwiwer's layout (from YMR and RMweb).

    Cheers,

I have just ordered a box of five 21 pin 4 function decoders with back EMF.

I have another of the same but in BR blue livery. That came chipped. Matt and I took it for a test run when I bought it and it is a very good performer in all aspects.

Watch this space for a decoder fitting session when they arrive

    Cheers

I have enough decoder fitted locomotives and units that I lose track in my head of what is fitted in which. For that reason, I started a spreadsheet in Excel to allow quick reference when I need it. It lists allocated number in the decoder, the actual cabside number (or names for locos like 'Deltic'), a description of the loco/unit, the brand/model of decoder, the number of functions and a brief summary of what they control (e.g. head, tail, & cab lights), the number of pins (or 'HW' for hard-wired), plus any secondary decoders for things like DMUs and EMUs that need more than one decoder.

It sounds complicated but it isn't really and it does allow me to answer queries like yours for the number of pins very quickly.

    Hi

I started a very similar list but never maintained it. Perhaps it is time to resurrect it. It does make sense. I could if I wanted to create it in JMRI where it automatically writes the decoder settings ets and let's you upload a photo of it as well. ....... Just don't tell Paul that I said that.

    Cheers

Decoders? ... 8 pin vs 21 pin 36-557 ... ? ... brings to mind stocks and ducking stools ... er you do know most toads are a protected species ... I must check MRM for mention of control by witchcraft!
