Good evening, I managed to get around to my decoder fitting. five out of five done ( even with Tany bleating in my ear on skype ) I have done two class 25's BR green with full yellow ends. Photos for one ( i'm not that keen ) here we are, here' s the victim and the shell comes off, four screws in the centre behind the bogies as usual. to reveal the chip, which I've just taken out. and in with the new, and on to the BR blue class 25, Shell of ( screws in the same place. You can see the factory fitted DC chip in place. Now for the DCC chip. and onto the class 419 in BR blue and grey and then take the screws out. four of them at the extreme corners, and the shell is off. and then the factory fitted DC chip and then its in with the new DCC decoder. Then we are on to the Royal Mail liveried parcels wagon ( Class 128 ) Out with four screws, once again behind the bogies, nice big screws and easy to see. and there is the factory fitted decoder for DC operation. off with the chip to reveal the pins. On with the 21 pin DCC decoder. Thats it ....... job done. Now ...... all I have to do is test them out and programme the running numbers. the idea is that next week I will be fitting 5 x 8 pin decoders to other locos that are on the waiting list, then I'll programme and run them on using my rolling road after that. cheers for now. toto
No problem kind sir. I'll be back on after the weekend with some class 27's and some class 08's. a mixture of straight forward direct pin and some with stay alive. life is never dull. cheers toto
Toto don't forget to add the eye of newt and teeth of toad ... or maybe Tany could help with the witchcraft it seems he has contacts.
Of course ......... Wishful thinking I think. They will all get weathered though. The two BR green 25's are already pre-weathered but they could probably get away with a bit more. The other three are pristine ......... For now. Cheers Toto
Toto, Did you run them on DC for a few laps prior to fitting the decoders ?? This is to make sure they are in good running order prior to fitting the decoders. Cheers, Gary.
"even with Tany bleating in my ear on skype" I watched with interest, it was like a live Gormo's shed, but no where near as pleasant. Watching Toto wield that hammer was a real eye opener, and the language was to say the least colourful. I am waiting with baited breathe for the next exciting episode...
There is only one kind of chips that he understands and they aint the electronic kind. wee fatty. toto
Well, Placed my order with Hattons for a box of five 8 pin direct decoders. Rated at 1.1A with back EMF. If the last delivery was anything to go by, they'll be here for Saturday morning. I'll take them away with me next week and fit them to my Heljans. Pack the Rolling road, Power cab and a few tools and gizzmo's, job done. Cheers Toto
You'll need to lookout your Rolling road, NCE Powercab, NCE USB interface, your lappy with JMRI installed. Cables both 4 wire (curly cable) 6 wire (flat cable) RJ22's, and a standard A - B USB cable. You can use your phones camera to take the piccies of each loco for the profile picture. And as usual at your beck and call Paul
