I'm loosely basing my entry on the Stony Point train station and reserve car park. I will be using a british gaurds van as the ticket collection hut, in the photo

This is going to be part of my layout. It will be at the end of the Stony Point Station terminus. I
First photo shows the area where the scene will take place. The track and station will be moved closer to the front of the layout, to allow more room of scenics. So major track works to be undertaken.

The second photo shows progress extending the top baseboard, to make room for the small ticket collection shed. Also added backing board for background. I spent the afternoon taking a panarama of the area.

Great idea, funnily enough I too am planning on using a Gaurds van body and intergrating it into my layout.

Spent the day moving track and station, doesn't look like I've done much, but spent a good 5 hours getting to this stage. Now ready to plan the actual competition build.

Finally made some progress. Area coated with poly filler. Hopefully this will give me a good texture for asphalt road. The 00 Guards van has been butchered, and new roof installed, using balsa wood. Some roofing cut and some signs printed. Happy with progress so far.

20220214_132112.jpg road crew with stream Engine came in a made a start on the road. Tried using some of the painting technics, recommended, but didn't go as planned but it a start. I've laid some ground, using beach sand. Now waiting for it to dry so I can apply a few
light washes too achieve the colour I'm after. Barriers with stop signs made. And Stony point reserve sign made.

    Well yes.......absolutely Phil...
I think it`s good to read up on things and watch how to videos etc...but at the end of the day, you`ve got to use that information and have a go at something yourself. The more you do these things, the more confident and more capable you become.
Really it can be summed up in three little words..." Practice, practice, practice ".
I think your use of the van is very original, so it will be interesting to watch the project develop.

I like the sign and barriers. They should look good once fixed in position. Keep it coming. Still got plenty time on this to run so no panic.

As far as rookie goes ....... meet your mate. :avatar: as Gormo says, nothing like jumping in. We all start somewhere and may even surprise ourselves on the way.

    Cheers for now

We all started as rookies. For myself when I returned to modelling despite having built lots of Airfix kits in my youth. I really struggled to do anything with plastic kits for a good number of years.

Ground painted, looks much better in real life. Used very light washes starting very light to darker. Just used cheap acrylics, burnt umber, raw sienna and raw umber with a touch of black. Just need to add grass tufts and general scatter. The main milestone is the backdrop. Created using panarama photo taken of the actual location I am modeling. The used Poster Razor, recommended by Gormo and Gary (thanks guys). I will have to touch up where the joins in the paper have shrunk a bit. I have made the backdrop removable by mounting it on 1mm plastic material. 20220223_135938.jpg
