My railway is pure fiction, but designed with the aim of being plausible, it is freight and industry based in the era of BR steam and green diesel, primarily 1:76 scale, OO gauge with DCC for loco driving only.

I have always been interested in freight operation even from my first Lone Star train set, I had a passenger set with a Princess loco and two coaches and my younger brother an 0-6-0 tank engine and trucks and always wished it had been the other way around.

This I have remedied as the years have passed and resulted in Warren Yard.

For those who may like to read any of my various series of articles, they are to date :-

    How it all Started

    Elements of the Railway

Warren Yard - purpose, design, operation and buildings

    Montague Dock - general merchandise

    Mineral Dock - heavy minerals

Cement Works - construction of the many buildings and their real life purpose

    Related Model Work

DCC - Loco Conversions - tales of converting many locos

"A Wrinkly in 3D Printing Land", a tale of an OAP Vs 3D printers

"A Wrinkly in 3D Scanner Woods", a tale of an OAP Vs a 3D Scanner

"Arkitex (00) - Expanding a 1960's System", what might have been, 3D filament printed

Stanier 8F 48158 northbound passing the Warren Yard with a mixed freight.

    Cropped DSCF6350.JPG

Head of the train consists of British Trix minerals and tank wagons followed by some Tri-ang Conflat L bodies grafted to British Trix chassis.

The 8F is a Hornby Dublo 1/2 inch motored loco, which responds and runs very well on DCC, especially considering only the wheels of the front and rear axles make contact with the track. Being an all metal loco designed to pull very stiff Dublo wagons it makes light work of late Trix and contemporary wagons even on my 1 in 48 mainline grades.

A solid and reliable breed of vintage locos, which encourages me to convert my Ringfield versions to DCC running, they require much more work to convert.

"Teddy Bear" (Class 14) D9535 has just arrived on a trip working from a southern yard, it has now been uncoupled in arrival road 1 so that the yard shunters can dismantle it's train, most of which is destined for the local docks to collect goods from an unloading tramp steamer and the dockside warehouses.

The refurbished ex-BR steam crane delivered to the heavy electrical engineers stands in their yard ready for it's next task, usually maneuvering large power transformers between BR and in house wagons.

    Cropped DSCF7162.JPG

Originally a Hornby Dublo breakdown crane, shown in the condition as bought online, a lucky buy, well enhanced and looks the part too.

A quiet day as crated gear is taken from the PW yard across the link bridge to access the main road via the wagon repair works. This works bridge is dual purpose for both departmental locomotives and vehicles and crosses a long dried up river bed now used only by hikers, the mainline crosses this bed via a pair of single track bridges to the right.

    Cropped DSCF6700.JPG

Plenty of vintage in this image, early Airfix JCB, Dinky Dublo lorry, Wardie bridges, the works bridge is scratchbuilt, with extra girder framing on the underside to take the weight of locomotives, medium weight wood decking for road vehicles.
